The thing about NASIOC is that you have to weed through the BS but there is a lot of great info there and some smart people. Once I put 2-3 of the antagonists on ignore life got much better.

Holy crap these cars are ugly....
...in pictures. Took a closer look when I had my BRZ serviced at the dealers. I think they look great in person. Seating position is not even that high when I had the seat adjusted all the way down. I was surprised at how everything felt right with the interior which Subaru is not really known for. If the BRZ and WRX came out at the same time..I would've had a tough time deciding on which car to get. |
Update: Coming from the BRZ, this car is in another dimension for comfort and ride quality. It seems to do pretty well in the corners and the steering feel is still pretty good. I liiiiiiiikey

On a more serious note: So far it has been pretty reasonable guys that have switched so over all it has been pretty good here. Only a matter of time before somebody starts trash talking the 86 and this thread turns into a bloodbath. Then we will all just be fanboi, wattabes that don't know a real car when we see one. Already have seen that as soon as somebody says they don't like the 15s (albeit in a rather aggressive manner) in this thread they get called an idiot and a troll. This is a vs thread so both sides of the coin are going to be expressed. It is not the OHHHHH the WRX/STI is super, peachy, keen and everything is wonderful thread. I personally will stay firmly planted in the middle and will even buy a stripped shirt if it helps. http://gif.mocksession.com/wp-conten.../HOCKEY-KO.gif Shit, I hope I don't actually start a problem with this! |

I mean, I never thought the new 15+ was a pretty car. I like the looks but it isn't amazing to me. That's all subjective though.
They're different cars meant for different things. It's just funny when somebody comes in and all they have to say is "that car is shit. It's ugly and it's not even a real STI anymore. The real STI died years ago blah blah blah". I mean, I guess... But look at the track record for the new chassis. It's undefeated in the U.S. Rally series this season. Placed 1st in its class at the 24H Nur. Set a new record, beating the previous chassis time at Isle of Man TT. Statistically, it's a far better chassis in so many ways than the previous generations. It may not be your favorite (my favorite is the 06-07 and 2dr GC8), but it's still a good car. Not perfect or anywhere close.. But still good. I can be realistic though. A lot of other people come with a vengeance scrutinizing different cars, or better yet, will fight to the death on a forum defending their car. Like the people who post the "FRS vs 911 GT3" threads. And then try and talk how the GT3 is only a better car in terms of straight line speed.. Like seriously?? Wtf are people smoking? The cars aren't even anywhere close to being in the same category. |

Combine that with an improved interior (fit and finish) and more standard technology and better safety and saying that the 2007 STI was the pinnacle of the model is just silly. |

Oh come on. The STI and WRX and Impreza are not pretty cars. With the STI bodywork, they certainly look aggressive and a bit exciting, but pretty? I don't think so. That's not to say it isn't an excellent car. I'm sure it is. I'd like to see a new engine, though. A built FA20 with a large turbo would make an exciting engine. Hopefully they'd put a serious oiling solution on there, enabling 600hp modded. Then I can transplant one into the FR-S. :)

The problem with looks is that it is such a personal and opinionated thing. I mean just look at this forum. Some people spend lots of money to make their car look like this and some people think it looks amazing and some people hate it:

Looks are subjective.
I do agree with a few people on here that they look ugly in pictures but when I saw a couple in person I thought it looked pretty sharp. I have too much fun hooning my 86 to consider trading it in >_> |

"Butt hurt"
The go to term for the uneducated who played on the last place little league team. |
Thanks for the write-up and I too, remember your beautiful car.
Best of luck with it. |
Dude, really do you have nothing better to do other than tread on his thread?

I'll admit I never ever liked a Subaru design period. But it's mainly because of my bias to low slung, sleek, sports-car like styling which Subaru was more known for rugged boxy designs. I'm thankful Toyota was in charge of styling on the 86 platform and Subaru in charge of everything else. I always said I would never buy a Subaru ever but lo and behold I'm practically driving one with styling I actually love. Never say Never!

Defence by a strong offense? Sort of embarrassed for coming to his defence at this point. |

I am speechless... Dude, no offense but you have really crappy taste. The 2007 STI looks like somebody went to Autozone and picked up a bunch or race/rice parts off the shelf then put them on an Impreza... http://memecrunch.com/meme/2P2J1/loo....jpg?w=400&c=1 |
In other, more relevant news, I'm starting to find a lot of info suggesting that the 15+ STI is underrated from the factory a little bit.
It's been confirmed that even though the part numbers are the same, the A/R housing on the turbo of the new model is slightly larger than the 2008-2014 model. It shows on dynos too, as the power seems to hold steady up to redline compared to the previous gen where it died off earlier. A lot of people are doing dynos and calculations and the consensus seems to be that the new STI is actually making like 320bhp. It's negligible in difference, but if it's true, that's kind of cool. I personally think though the difference in power numbers on dynos is more because of the improved chassis, resulting in more power getting to the ground. Opinions? |
