Agree, but I believe this is a game of proportions.

Since the side impact and pedestrian impact safety regulations are raising all belt lines, it appears that increasing the diameter of the wheel makes the design to appear more in proportion.

This would be why a 2013 BRZ has 17s, where in 2003, a WRX with 16s was standard and the 2004 STi had MASSIVE 17s.
