What is the proper placement for the vent on the hood? zdr95324's pictures seem to show the placement much farther forward than the other pictures on here.

@Jonsey FYI you can also moved the vents further forward if you'd like, but you don't want to move it backwards.

@Jonsey Here are pics from my install... The alignment of the templates were per TrackSpec Motorsports hood louvers installation instructions.

I feel they look much better installed per instructions as compared to installing them forward especially if the front angle of the louvers contradicts the front hood line.

I used this portable work stand to secure my hood while cutting it with a 4" die grinder. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...lation%20.jpeg

Mine are placed where they are to cover previous (ineffective) vent experimentation.

Per John at Trackspec, mine are as far forward as you would want to go and the position in the instructions is the farthest rearward that you would want them. However, my positioning is the most effective placement even though they may not be as aesthetically pleasing (because race car... function >>>>>> form). The leading edge of my vents is directly over the trailing edge of the radiator support, meaning they begin immediately at the radiator exit.

Just curious, my car isn't FI, but I'm running an uncoated/unshielded UEL header. I've had the A1 coilpack replaced twice this season. I'm not sure the additional heat from the header is causing the CELL/overheating but I'm guessing it isn't helping. Would the hood louvers make enough of a difference to help with this issue, or are overheating coilpacks in the FT86 simply a way of life with this car?

(FWIW, OF doesn't recommend coating/wrapping the header as they claim it doesn't allow it to expand/cool and could lead to premature cracking. They recommended 'wrapping' the coilpack, but I can't see a practical or effective way of doing that)

It's primarily a 13 issue, but some people claim that hood vents can prevent the coilpack failure. I don't have enough sample data to say one way or the other... but it will absolutely reduce underhood temps!

The vents are currently backordered about a week.

Thanks Mike. I have only one more event left this season (in Oct) and the issue is unlikely to repeat at that time of year. But I'm interested to see how this pans out. please keep us posted in this thread over the next few months. If you have enough people claiming they haven't had a coilpack failure since running the louvers, when they've had them before, I'll probably order them myself in the spring.

I can't wait to do this, my biggest concern is my car being a DD, and even with rain trays; water dumping right onto the turbo/wrapped header

Maybe when shes a trailer queen in the next year or so :brokenheart:

McLarens have a mesh "hood". The entire engine is open. I don't think they have any problems with rain :)

I do recommend heat shields for hot components so that 1. you don't radiate as much heat and 2. the rain doesn't fall directly on them.

I have all my exhaust components wrapped; blanket on my turbo etc, I can't imagine they would fair to well long term with getting soaked in the rain/snow.

I'm hoping sooner than later as my wife starts her new job that I'll be able to get another car, I could now but I'd rather not stretch it if I dont have to.

I can't think of a mid-engine supercar that doesn't have extensive engine cover vents... McLaren, R8, Lambos, Ferraris, 918, etc... all have vented engine covers. I've driven many of those in the rain with no issues. Shit... I delivered a 918 to the top, and I mean the last house at the top of a ski-in, ski-out private community, in Park City, in the snow, in January!!! If it was a problem, you'd never be able to wash a supercar.

I ran these vents this past season and found that I had a looser rear. In speaking with @juliog on Instagram, his experience found that the Sard LSR rear wing is a good match to balance out the extra front downforce created by the Trackspec hood vents with otherwise stock aero.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to balance the aero, or is @juliog the smartest person ever?
