Thanks! Good idea. I was hoping to keep it under 2k a year at least. Clean record, I've had my license for 8 years. I would have thought it would be a lot cheaper.

kALMIGHTY 07-23-2013 06:55 PM

I'm one of the high paying ones too, and this was the lowest I could get by shopping around. This probably isn't relevant to most of you since I'm in Canada.

TD Insurance
Comprehensive, $1 million liability, $500 deductible
Full rental coverage (I get a rental car of the same type...i.e. sports coupe..in case anything happens to mine and it's getting fixed or serviced)
$269.50/month

I am 19 though, and this is my first car, so I expected it to be high.
No accidents, tickets of any kind, no points. Perfectly clean record.

State Farm quoted me $670 per month. YEAH RIGHT!

I doubt many in the US can get under $200 for full coverage on a new car at your age. If you can swing it..

uEih 07-23-2013 07:24 PM

Most places are giving me around ~$220-240 but geico for some reason quoted me ~$140 online, which I'm very happy if I could get it at that price.. Not sure how accurate it is but I'm probably going to visit a geico and talk to them in person about it.

I work in a body shop so I see a lot of various coverages. Even between my sister and I. She got a good deal through Travelers, but they wanted too much from me. So I went with Nationwide ( they gave my sister horrible quote). I've also used others in the past... State Farm, American Independent, Progressive, 21st Century/AIG. When I had American Independent, the premium went up each year since others in the area were having accidents, lol.

BRZ Limited
Nationwide
Pennsylvania
Full coverage/limit tort
Underinsured/uninsured
$40/day rental coverage
Roadside assistance (mostly for my wife's sake)
Vanishing deductible... It's at $300 now.
32yrs old, married
No accidents or tickets... Had cars that were hit while parked though and some insurances count that as the car being involved, so my premium went up(AIG/21st Century)
$165/month.

slaxx 07-30-2013 01:31 AM

38 and single, BRZ Limited insurance is $90/month with double California minimums, full collision. Clean record, plus a second car ($65/month) and homeowners policies for discounts @ State Farm. Cheap!

ericmpena 07-30-2013 01:36 AM

28 in Texas. Full coverage with Progressive. My 2012 Gen Coupe was at $160/month. When I got the BRZ it dropped to $130/month. I'm cool with that. :)

This response makes more sense. How much did your insurance increase or decrease from your previous car.

I'm picking up my BRZ on Saturday and my insurance agent let me know that my insurance premium will be increasing $31. I'm trading in my MINI Cooper S Clubman.

meeskee2 08-15-2013 05:54 PM

I'm turning 30 next month. I just got my renewal notice in the mail. My insurance is going down to $61/month. BOOYEAH!

uEih 08-15-2013 06:42 PM

Hmm, I was paying about $120 before my Gen Coupe. It went up $40 when I got the Gen Coupe, and then dropped $30 for the BRZ. I have no idea why it jumped around. An Eclipse, Gen Coupe, and BRZ all seem pretty similar. Maybe it has to do with my age.

Idk but do you think they take into consideration of the horsepowers of the car?

All my cars have been about the same HP. Eclipse was 210hp, Gen Coupe was 200hp, and BRZ is 200hp. All 2 door coupes. My Eclipse actually didn't have full coverage, but because I was younger my insurance was still $120. When I got the Gen Coupe I went to Full Coverage and then it went up to $160. BRZ is also full coverage but I think since I'm older now and my driving has been clean it dropped to $130.

I'm just assuming though, I don't know what they actually base it on.

A short list:

- vehicle popularity
- vehicle safety rating
- vehicle theft deterrent (or lack of)
- ease with which vehicle is stolen
- availability/cost of replacement parts
- anything that is different between the two cars (replacement value, used car value, depreciation, etc)

That is a short list. I can go into much more detail, but if you think about it, the CARS are different. Unless it's two identical BRZs, your insurance rates will vary between cars, even at the same perceived value to you.

I'm deployed, so I've got my cars in "parked" status. Insurance is like ten... maybe twenty bucks a month. I don't know. It's low enough for me to not even know how much it is. Obviously you don't want to do this then go driving around, but if you ever go on like a month-long or longer trip, remember to do this.

Kostamojen 08-16-2013 02:18 AM

33
BRZ Limited
Full coverage $500 deductible

Going from $400 a year for a Liability-only 1995 impreza, so thats not bad at all.

These numbers mean nothing!

If you don't have the liability limits listed, these numbers are useless. There's also all the terms of the policy and deductible. Some cover you in Mexico. Some give a free rental car.

CladMonitor 08-17-2013 05:13 PM

State Farm
100/300/50
500 deductible
85 a month for a 27yr old female.

So that was the trick for me because it was $20 per month more. So on paper I am the primary on her 2013 Prius C and she's on my 2013 FR-S.
