1. They will create a sport package that adds roughly $2,000 worth of kit and call it a day.
No engine mods. Maybe suspension but mostly cosmetic and aero. Maximum price of $30,000 MSRP.

or

2. They will sell STI and SPT parts and try to create a mod culture and embrace that it is better at turning than going in a straight line. Which they already do.

or

3. Now that they've seen that they can sell a RWD car. They will move the STI upmarket and slide the BRZ STI in its price point. (This much less likely than the others.) The WRX STI already boarders on too expensive for what it is.

This is uncharted territory for them honestly. They designed it to be an entry level sports car. So an entry level sports car it will stay.

Yeah, that is the problem I see too. An STI BRZ would be priced so close to an STI WRX. The question I have is so what? They are very different cars. If you want more room, AWD, heavier car get the WRX. If you are looking for more compact, light, RWD, get the BRZ. I can tell you right now I would have no problem dropping $32K down on a STI BRX that had brembos, 50+ more hp, and 50+ more ft lbs of torque along with bigger and stickier tires and some other enhancements. I would be in the market for that car, but at the same time, I am not in the market for a WRX.

I am not convinced a BRZ STI would kill off WRX STI sales or vice versa. And I would not see many BRZ STI's being produced, so the demand would be high I suspect.

+1

If Subaru would release high performance parts that you could have the dealer install and it would not void the warranty, I would be all over this.

I am definitely going to watch your thread closely.

This is new and pertinent to me, oh wait, already did it.

I agree - there's obviously room for the BRZ and the WRX to coexist as two high-performance cars at a similar price point, so I don't see that a BRZ STI and a WRX STI wouldn't be able to coexist as two even higher-performance cars at a similar price point.

I agree that they can exist together. Not at the same price point tho. It doesn't make sense financially to divide profit on a similar price point. There is room for a 30,000 brz sti that emphasizes handling. However, I think we can all agree that we will never see a 300+hp Stock BRZ. Probably not a significant increase at all. Maybe < 25hp. And it will always be NA. If you are waiting for that then you might as well buy it now and supercharge it, buy all the sti parts from Japan. Then Throw an STI badge on it. Nobody is going to question it. I think it looks pretty cool on this one made by STi themselves.

Whether the STI will come out or not for 2015 model, I will purchase a BRZ. Cant wait longer than that.

If this is true http://www.autotrader.com/research/a...-auto-show.jsp

With just the carbon roof and brembo brakes, plus other STI goodies.

I think it will be worth it if its price at $30k:happyanim:

Who cares if it kills off the WRX or STi sales? From a business point of view you're making a product that people are buying left and right. That's great! If they need to, they will cut production numbers for the WRX/STi. Better yet, make it a better, lighter car and get sales on it again. It's starting to get really heavy these days

I would rather go aftermarket than buy that. Not loving the rims or the wing.. The carbon fiber roof is kinda cool though.

I think it will be worth it they are selling it for $30k, BBK complete kit will cost you atleast $4.5k. And we still havent added carbon roof, 18 wheel and other sti products. I dont like the wing too.

who is waiting

Kilika 05-31-2013 12:57 AM

I'm patiently waiting, if it doesn't come I'll get a Cayman instead even though it costs way more. The cost difference of a STi over a regular BRZ is easily justified because the cost to mod a regular BRZ to have 18s, better brakes, 20-30 more HP and and other interior and exterior cosmetic improvements is going to cost more in the end not to mention the piece of mind that's it all under warranty and still legal in the stock autocross classes. I'm also a bit old now to be modding cars so a stock STi would be great since I already get enough ribbing from the execs at work saying I'm in the Fast and Furious crowd when I drive a mostly stock MR2.
