Nature of the beast, gas nozzle at a certain angle will help a lot I've found on this car and my previous celica.
|
If I insert the gas nozzle all the way into the filler hole it causes the gas to back up and trips the full tank cutoff float. Just pulling the filler nozzle out about a half to three quarters of an inch allows the tank to be filled at max flow.

this post was from 3 months ago. i wonder if the op got it fixed and what was the cause?

I had a swollen filler neck. Dealer replaced the vaper valve first, no dice. Then charcoal canister, nada. Then they disassembled the entire thing to find the neck was swollen nearly closed.
At the time, I hadn't been DDing the car much and it sat in the garage 4-5 days a week, and every night. No clue why, other than possibly flawed materials. |
Could be a potential fill tube collapse. Check this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...fill+slow+fuel.

damn, Ive been having this problem too. I figured it was the evap can like on my forester. I guess I have to go to the dealer then…

i should've posted this a long time ago, this happened to me back in 2013. I disconnected the filler neck and on the filler rubber neck. The neck had completely swollen up from the inside (bubbled up), to fix I popped the inflated inner rubber layer with a knife until the bubbles were gone completely. Took like 15 mins to do.

I've been fighting the gas tank for the last 4-6 months - early 2013 BRZ - I have never 'topped off' - always stopping the filling after the first auto cut-off of the nozzle.
The problem with not being able to fill the tank occurs when the car is cold and when the car is hot, different pumps......sometimes moving the nozzle helps a little - turning it sideways - but most of the time it is hold until clicks - 2 seconds, and repeat until tank is full - about 10 minutes. Other times, fuel gushes out of the tank - down the side of the car and on my shoes :mad0260: Other than the time it takes - it is the frustration.....even considered just trading the stupid thing in (lots of $ in stereo installation - not an easy choice). I took the car to the dealership today - they have never heard of this - they took some things off (the guy at the counter wasn't sure what the tech did) - they told me I need to come back next week for diagnostics - could take a couple hours they said......I have 60k on the car - so even if it was covered under the 5/60 - wouldn't make it - but they said that it wouldn't be covered under that 5/60 anyway. I'm happy to read that this isn't an isolated issue with my car....and it sounds certainly like something is wrong with that fuel filler hose collapsing. I now have some information to take to the dealership next week. I shot a video with my phone - gas pouring out every time I pulled the handle....got 0.74 gallons in.....then I gave up. Wish I could post it here. |

mine does the same crap, but doesnt spew out like that i resorted to fueling at like 10% and just going super slow. takes a good 5 min to barely hit half tank... pretty frustrating. also early 2013. i resorted to filling up 5 gal tanks at my e85 station and just putting it in at home. |

Mine does the same thing as the video and started up about 6 months ago and has gotten progressively worse. Sounds like it's this filler hose lining issue so I'll see what I can do to rectify it.
If you are running into issues now it will likely get progressively worse over time. |
