Dealer told me that there is no fix yet. Replacing the pump with new will have the same effect after a short while. We have to wait for a new pump to come out and call in about 2 months or so for them to replace it. There is only a TSB out currently, so no recall yet. It has no effect of the car's performance other than the noise.

Wait, what? Chirping? I'm not sure I've ever experienced this phenomenon before. What happens?

Was this meant to be typed in sarcastica font? I get the chirps from time to time but never notice it unless the radio is off and windows are down. To be honest, I like the little quirks this car has. Every sport car has had issues like this and I think its to remind the driver that the car's designers were focused on making it fun, not flawless. There are much worse problems to have than chirps, squeaks, and rattles. If you want a car that has no quirks, makes no noises, and is still in the 20K price range then I suggest you buy a corolla. No problems = no character.:happy0180:

Haha, no, I was being serious. I've yet to hear "chirping", but I'm also partial to Chevron gas and I read a few posts saying that fixed the problem for certain drivers :iono:. Also, I'm usually blasting music anyways so maybe that's why I've yet to notice :x

Here, here! (about car quirks) :happy0180:

"Apparently" the Subaru dealer fixed it. Which did not. I learned to live with the noise. I usually use Shell and it still has chirping.

I'm assuming you got it "repaired" relatively recently. Just give it some time. Your old chirping friend will be back to see you soon.

It will take more than two months, imagine the amount produced in the factories by now. You think TOYOTA will just shove underground the first series pumps somewhere? They'll use those all up before a redesigned pump will see the light of public. And a recall is not necessary unless that pump suddenly blows up and causes bodily harm on the car's occupants. Like I have mentioned, if lubrication is involved, try a premix!

I thought Id chime in on the chirping issue here ..

just passed about 3k miles with all Shell gas up until a couple days ago, and chirping since that first fill up.

Filled up with my first full tank of chevron, and all the chirps are gone :)

DAMotorsports 03-10-2013 03:12 PM

It may not be an option for everyone but I have been using Costco for 91 since I got my Raven and thankfully still no signs of chirping. It's really good gas, I get good milage and its the same price as 87 at any other gas station.

Glendale Subaru ordered the replacement pump, installed, chirp gone for the last 5000 miles. =^)

EK_Golfer 03-15-2013 11:05 PM

So for the first 2 months I was using only Shell gas with chirps. So for the last few fill ups I've been using Chevron, and it made no difference, the chirps remained.

Mine just stopped.
