Any RPM's?? Or at high RPM's?

Could it just be a characteristic of the gearbox? My altezza j160 does the same thing but its not bad for me.

I'm running redline mt90.

Pentosin did make shifts feel alot better/easier though, especially when it's cold. Before Pentosin, it was all but impossible for me to shift into 2nd when cold.

I am starting to notice after a long drive (30 minutes or more) the grinds rarely, if ever, occur anymore.. maybe it goes away after the tranny gets really hot?

Same experience for me. The transmission is my biggest problem with my BRZ, borders on unacceptable sometimes. I am very nervous shifting from 1st to 2nd in the morning as even with Pentosin it may grind. But better overall with Pentosin.

My 2nd gear almost grinds every time when it was -15.

His 2nd gear not 2nd transmission.

Hope you find the source of your issue. Please report back!

shit... idk man. bad synchro's??

Metabrz 01-31-2013 06:03 PM

I've installed a Cusco transmission collar mount and this has helped with 1st>2nd, 2nd>1st and 2nd>3rd shifting.

Shifting is faster, more precise and smoother. Shifting from 2nd to 1st at very low speeds is now a possibility whereas before I was not comfortable even trying it.

Downside is there is a little more transmission whine but its not annoying.

Nope cause it was fixed without having any parts replaced... still waiting to hear from the mech about what work he had done to the car... Its killing me not know what was done.

has your issues been fixed yet? if so, what has been done? im still getting the shitty shifting even 1000 miles later, today. :mad0260:

took the car in for the 1 month inspection and asked about it. they said it was normal and thats how the car was made. so im curious.

It sounds like the wrong weight of gear oil for the temperature. If it's notchy when cold but fine after it warms up, the first number needs to be upgraded eg. XXw-XX. I seem to recall that the colder it is the heavier weight oil you need. Any gear oil experts on here?

XPR Small Block 02-23-2013 04:07 PM

i think its the opposite with the oil same thing with motor oil colder it is the thinner it needs to be, hotter temps need thicker oils. think about it if the tranny is scratching the syncros when its cold is because the oil isnt able to expand enough to cover all the parts correctly when its warm the tranny is fully coated = fully functional trans

Nope issue returned 500-1000kms laterbooking the car in again soon.

Same here. Switched to Pentosin, much better, but still grinds on occasion when cold.
