Slave Cylinder Upgrade for Heavy Clutches?

Hi guys, I was wondering if there is an upgrade for the slave cylinder for those with aftermarket clutches? Some of the aftermarket clutches makes the clutch pedal a lot stiffer and I was wondering if there's a solution around this?

On some cars like the late Supra, they sell aftermarket slave cylinders to make the clutch pedal feel lighter especially if they're pushing high power which requires a higher performance clutch.

Is there such a thing for the twins? I have searched high and low for it but I can't seem to find any information on it.

Have you actually identified the need for this with your clutch? Most people are going the other way. They're removing the clutch spring to get a heavier, more communicative clutch pedal.

you just need a slightly smaller diameter slave cylinder?

measure up the bore of the existing part and go for a 1/16" smaller this will increase pedal travel but reduce the effort

I always skip leg day and I like mixed drinks, lol. Have you ever tried driving a car with an aftermarket pressure plate rated for high tq? They're gnarly heavy so that's why I need to make the pedal lighter.

Hmmmm, do they sell inserts for the bore? Is there a slave cylinder setup that I can buy that can be adapted to the twins for this? I've read about one upgrade you can do here (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77390) but this apparently stiffens the clutch a bit and I'm trying to totally go the opposite direction.

I think you have it backwards.@ Ultramaroon suggested that we switch from the OEM 13/16 to 3/4 to get more feel. I did so and got more feel. I think you'll need a 7/8 if you're using the original one and it's too heavy.

stop skipping leg day lol. I do sympathize with you though if you drive in stop and go traffic with a heavy duty pressure plate. you'll get used to it eventually though. my previous car had a heavy clutch pedal with an aftermarket ACT clutch + PP and I eventually got used to it, even in traffic. try adjusting your clutch pedal to see if you can make it better. I like my engagement point to be about an inch off the floor and it makes it easier in traffic as well.

I'm going to try to buy another slave cylinder and bore it out and see how much better it will feel.

Lol. Nah all joking. My MR2 turbo has a OS Genkin twin plate, talk about heavy clutch.... I daily driven that beast for years, my left calf was much beefy. But after a week you get used to it.
Ya know, leg day bro.

Hmmm, how about using a multi-disc clutch? I hear they can be finicky but that would be the way to go if you want to get more grab with less force.

Also consider that the weak spot in the driveline is the transmission. The stock clutch will slip before fourth gear grenades.

I don't mind paying a pretty penny for someone to build me a custom slave cylinder. Anybody know of one in the Southern California (preferably OC) area? If not then what about online?

While upgrading the clutch & slave cylinder, make sure to upgrade the clutch for. Cuz OEM clutch fork CANNOT handle it

Like Velox clutch fork

yes if you want a heavier pedal then increase the master bore, it will increase pedal feel but that wasn't the request

take a look at this site for a easy calculator to plug in values

http://www.markwilliams.com/braketech.aspx

another option is to change the pedal ratio to increase the travel and the leverage on the master
