Drain plug leaking...what to do...
Guys I finally found a car yesterday about 200 miles from my house. Went looked at it, took it for a quick test drive, everything check out great. Carfax/Autocheck look good. It was a long haul home and I noticed this morning pulling the car out a small puddle of oil under the car. At first I thought it was water or condensate from the AC.
Nope, definitely oil when I got out to look. So I put the car on stands and it appears to be coming from around the drain plug. So I'm not sure if it's been cross threaded or what? It was tight, I loosened and retightened myself (hand tight). I'm a bit annoyed because the dealership is 200 miles away, but overall it seems like a really good car. I am annoyed that after a day the drain plug seems to have an issue. Is this common or is something else amiss?? |

Don't guess, specify and look for it on the invoice.

Oh ya, and I told the service advisor specifically, fix the leak around the drain plug even if it requires a new plug, definitely replace the gasket. He said they do the gasket/washer every change. Should be good to go in a bit.

A leaking drain plug isn't (or shouldn't be) a common issue. Hopefully, a new gasket will fix er up. Worst case, a new oil pan and new plug would be required. Don't listen to those old coots that will talk about ..... re-tapping and installing a larger drain plug ........ or using plumbers tape ...... or sticking a corn cob in it ....... ![]() humfrz |

People at the dealership just love to over or under tighten the nut, they did it to me too. I didn't even bother using my last free oil change, trust them ~0%. But other than that congratulations! Im sure you will love the car, I do two years later, just boosted about a week ago and I love it even more!

Yaaaaaa...............
Brings to mind the old proverb: For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the message was lost. For want of a message the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail. humfrz |
