Question How are you logging at the track?

How do you get your engine's feedback at the track? I'm mainly asking how to get you logs from ecutek or any obd2 source that gets all engine parameters at the track since having a laptop on the passenger seat is out of the question. Software based is my interest, i don't have to have guages everywhere since this isn't a track car but would see the track once in a while and would like to make sure things are ok. Thanks

I use the Harry's Lap Timer app on my phone and bluetooth OBDII reader.

The only useful measurement it doesn't give is oil pressure.

The nice thing about HLT is that you can record video on the phone and overlay the readings (RPM, speed, gear, etc) onto the video. It also provides graphs / data overlay on the track map.

I just bought an external GPS unit since the phone GPS only samples at 1Hz but with the external I can get 5Hz or 10Hz.

HLT is $20 on Android for the most advanced version.

Edit: If all you want are gauges and data logging, the Torque app will do that as well.

Thanks man I have Harry's lap timer and it's pretty cool. I was more interested not in telemetry but actual engine parameters. Coolant, oil temp, boost, fuel trims, afr, knock...

I think Torque will give you all of those.

Yeah I'm looking into a similar app. Just trapped one of those elm wifi obd2 transmitter to read with an iPhone app.

OBDLink MX adapters are good (http://www.obdlink.com). I use the WiFi MX with iPhone, DashCommand for diagnostics, Harry's Laptimer for track/ax, external bluetooth GPS (Dual 150A)

The OBDLink MX is the best BT reader I've used.

Since I have Ecutek I have a small Windows tablet (Venue 8 Pro) I use to datalog engine parameters sometimes, but it requires a cable. Hard to beat the data you get and the resolution though. Using an external input I have it logging wideband AFR also, but no way to log oil pressure.

I believe the OFT box can record most parameters as well now.

Yeah I figured it'll be hard to log afr, oil pressure and even knock since these aren't things the obd2 reports, that I know unless using a more advanced software like ecutek. I guess it'll do to keep an eye on temps. Even though oft and ecutek could be used it'll be a tad uncomfortable, possibly risky having those longer obd2 connectors under the dash at a track drive.

PS-thanks for your feedback.

Pretty sure the engine doesn't know the oil pressure, only that there is pressure or not.

Yeah oil pressure isn't measured or at least is not displayed. Maybe he meant temp since oil pressure was never mentioned before in this thread.

Aim Solo DL.

Datalogging, plus I set up the display to show real-time lap times (plus delta to lowest session time).

But in all honesty, I don't need to see all the parameters at the track. Aside from temps, the other stuff is useless unless you have a horrible tune.

Yeah that is true I was just wondering if there was a way without having to need someone next to you holding your laptop to get a good log. So aim solo gives you temps? Thanks

For those using their phones to log data, what mounts are you using to keep them from flying about the cabin?

Most of the OBDII apps give you temps.

Aim Solo DL talks can bus so it gets the data faster and also pulls some nice stuff like accelerometer data and brake pressure.
