I am looking at the Sumitomo HRZ III

I am looking for some great tires and also looking to not break the bank. My Mod list is limited but will be expanding this summer. As of now just an OFT guy, but will be going full exhaust from the headers back.

I am comparing them to the Direzza DZ 102 tires. They look very similar to me and also a way to save a cool 80 bucks.

I just bought some Sumitomos for my RDX and I love them. I love Michelins...but at more than double the cost...I just cant justify. Never really liked Dunlops....especially on my bikes. I have had several (Sumos) sets on different cars over the years and the bottom line is there is no better tire for the $$$...and....you don't care as much when you want to burn some rubber!

I'm thinking of getting the Continentals DWs as well.

I had these on my Dodge SRT4 back in the day. Grip for days, but a bit dicey when they are not warmed up. Treadwear was.... ish. Bottom line: loved them!

Ran them on a different car in 245/40-17...they stick well when warm, but tended to flat spot when parked for more than a day or two, and were a little thumpy on the road. Replaced them with Conti ExtremeContact DW and thought the ride was better and the dry grip was easily as good, and the wet grip was 10x better. However, you can't beat the price of the Sumitomos.

Both my buddy and I run Dunlop DZ102s and love them. They're a new for 2014 design whereas the Sumitomos (also made by Dunlop btw) were designed in 2009.

I had the Sumitomo HTR ZIII several years ago. Pretty good in the dry, quite awful in the wet. I think the Dunlop DZ102 is a better tire.

Had sumos on my previous car. They were great for the price. Tended to get that yellowish brown tinge to them if you didn't keep a coat of tire shine on them but other than that, they suited my street car needs perfectly.

Had these on my sti. They seem to be prone to camber wear if you run anything around -1.5 or more. I was thinking about these for the frs soon but may go either dz102 or firestone firehawk Indy wideovals

I ran the HTR ZIIIs on my '10 WRX. They had much better steering feel and grip than the stock Dunlop SP 01s. They also lasted much longer than the stockers. As others have said, they were great in the dry but wet grip suffered a bit. They didn't like going thru puddles on the highway either. I never had any problems in the ~30k miles I had them. For the price, you really can't go wrong for a street tire, especially if you don't have much rainy weather.

I used Sumi III' s on my old 350Z. One of my favorite DD tires! On par with the Nitto Invo and only a bit less than the Michelin PSS that I tried on the same car. I almost put them on my FR-S, but I wanted to try the new-ish Cooper RS-A (again, a great tiree for the price).

I have a set in 245/40 on my car right now and I love them. I need an alignment so I don't eat through them too fast. They're a bit noisy, but I can live with it.

Are you still able to slide the car around with the DZ102?

I just suggested these in another thread. I have run them before, good grip, a little noisy, wet grip is decent, inexpensive, and not too heavy. I also suggested Dunlop re760, and bfg sport comp 2.


Sliding the car is due to driver input, tires only make some much difference.

Yes, but it takes more throttle, greater steering input or more speed to to it. They don't have that low initial grip at turn-in that the Primacy's do.
