Car died/semi-revived need help
So on my way home I saw an empty lot and did like three donuts and was about to take off... Then my engine did a violent shake and dies. I towed it to the shop and when I charged the battery it would try to crank but would die. I checked the fluids and my oil and coolant were dry! I had only 2200 miles on my oil from my last change. So I topped off the oil and coolant, sprayed carb cleaner in the intake and she fires right up and drives like normal. I've noticed no leaks from the headgasket, but it blows a giant plume of white smoke on initial start and just smells like it's burning oil. I'm thinking maybe the valve seals might be done . but I need a good idea of what I'd need before I even take this engine apart. It drives find and still has all power, just has a burning oil smell. So this is my SOS, never had a problem with it before in my 46k of ownership.

Seems like you have it well evaluated. I would consider taking the heads off, freshen/rebuild and get a new HG.
But.......do you race/drive hard? If you were low on oil after doing this, what was the motor doing to lose the oil where you weren't noticing. |

DriveTrain warranty(which includes engine) is 60K. Why would you try to diagnose/repair yourself? |

Honestly no, I don't drive it hard besides randomly opening it up and very rarely drifting it. And I don't typically check my oil since I change it every 3-4k. Every change had been a full drip pan.. And idk it felt normal then all of a sudden it just sputtered and died.

Do you hear anything different?
Is it using oil and or coolant now? Any oil in your coolant or vice versa? Oil pressure? (this is why, IMHO, it was fucking delinquent to ship this car without an oil pressure gauge. Shame shame, Toyobaru.) |

Absence of coolant is plausible that you hadn't checked in a while and the car consumed it little by little and had nothing in the reservoir.
Aslo check the turbo water lines, I had one clamp seeping a bit of coolant. When you say no oil, you mean dipstick dry? Also do you have a catch can?

Just chiming in here simply because I've heard of this before--on Car Talk (RIP Tom). Guy called in where he described a "puff of white smoke" when he started the motor. I realize this isn't quite the same situation, but its similar enough for me to agree with Tom and Ray--definitely have a loose/blown valve seal and you are leaking oil into the combustion chamber.
"And, don't drive like my brother."

Valve seals would definitely cause the the plume of smoke, they may have been what consumed the oil or I would think they could have been caused by running low on oil. Check oil pressure with a known good sensor/gauge, don't trust the one on the car, it may have been working incorrectly and not reporting a low pressure issue. Check cylinder compression, and obviously take a look at the plugs while you have them out. I would double check for external leaks with the car off the ground and a good bright flashlight. Check the intake piping after the turbo for signs of oil, maybe one of the turbo seals is leaking. Pull the oil drain plug and drain it through a coffee filter, see if you find bits of engine internals. Or you can just yank the engine out/apart and check all the seals, bearings and other things that need oil. My guess is you'll be getting a engine for it, unless your very lucky.

Dipstick dry it was at the first circle. I typically do all my fluids around the same time. Oil/coolant 3-4k. I probably should have paid more attention. Also would backfire/afterfire from being catless cause enough back pressure to blow an exhaust valve? Also I had a little more than a quarter tank of gas. So if I were to rebuild the heads? What would yall recommend I buy besides a valve train kit and headgasket? I'm just gunna have the heads milled and replace everything necessary and just in case shit also

So there still was some oil in it? When you said dry in the OP I thought you meant that there was no oil at all. If it was just at the bottom end of the dipstick your engine very probably hasn't started shredding itself. Just find and fix all the leaky bits.
