The "Toyota GT-One" road legal race car from 1998...

http://www.autolifers.com/limelight-...-one-road-car/

So a couple of months back I was at TMG HQ in Cologne where they let me take a few pictures of their facilities and what they have lurking underneath the wind tunnels. Although I have plenty of pictures of the Motorsport museum, I wanted to share this with you first. I was awestruck when I seen this in the flesh! I have seen the Porsche 911 GT1 in their museum in Stuttgart, but the GT-One is just so much more menacing when you see it in person.

But It got me thinking about something, Although we have GT variants of most sports cars out there, do you think there would be space for GT1 style homologation in top-tier endurance racing??

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy my pictures as much as I did taking them!
Ciarán

I've seen the 911 GT1 on track in anger, what a great car!

Wish I'd had a chance to see the Toyota too.

Funny, it is still cool but does look a bit dated now. I guess that's part of being purpose built to a rule.

As for whether it could be homologated now, or any other similar car, they don't fit the current ACO/FIA/IMSA rules so there's really no place for them now.

Thanks guys! It was an amazing day out, the Toyota Facilities are second to none (I suppose they would want to be since this is where the F1 programmme was ran!

I have seen a lot of "extreme" metal in my time (as well as the CLK GTR and the 911 GT1), but this car was something else in terms of it's presence. At least with the mercedes and porsche you can relate it to a road car of some description with the headlights and there are creature comforts, but the Toyota is a no-compromised race car devoid of livery.
I think the strangest thing of all was the fact that it had a cigarette lighter in it! Also the indicator stalk came from a Toyota corolla

@ Superhatch, the car was never driven in anger but I think there were a few exhibition laps at Goodwood in the UK, and a couple of select tracks. It's essentially the same car as it's racing counterparts.

That thing is an amazing vehicle.

The closest I've ever gotten to seeing something like that was the Nissan R390 GT1. For those of you that aren't familiar:

I still have the 4x6 pictures I took of it from the Chicago Auto Show I believe. But when I saw it I didn't realize what I was looking at at the time.

Last caffeine and octane I went to, a jaguar xj220 pulled up and stole the show. That car was so hot the clutch nearly blew...

I have new wallpapers for the work PC... Thanks for the great pictures. I believe I wouldn't be able to take those greats pics, since I would have lost my pulse, start uncontrollably flapping, or both.
