R.I.P. Sprint car driver Kevin Ward Jr. hit by Tony Stewart

[ame]http://youtu.be/WyOhGE4HXDA[/ame]

Quote:
Tony Stewart hit and killed driver Kevin Ward Jr., who walked toward
Stewart's sprint car Saturday night after the two had an altercation at
Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park.

Tony was racing a sprint car in the Empire Super Sprints series at the
half-mile dirt track in upstate New York, about an hour from Watkins Glen
International, site of this weekend’s Cup race.

Stewart was not arrested and the sheriff told reporters that the driver had
returned to Watkins Glen. The case will be handled by the district attorney.

Un fucking real. I've forever wanted that shit head Stewart out of any type of racing. Never once have I or my family had a half decent interaction with that shithead. What a bastard.

I'm a bit confused. Why did Ward walk into traffic? Why was the race not halted when he got out of his car ON THE TRACK? Did Stewart hit Ward on purpose?

It looks like Stewart (the #14 car) ran Ward (#13) off the track and into a wall. Then Ward got out and tried to flag Stewart down--I assume to fight him. But Stewart either did not see him or did see him and hit him.

Am I correct in my analysis. I am unfamiliar with this type of racing.

He saw him and ran him over.

It think it was more like he was stupid enough to try and confront a moving vehicle and wasn't seen. I don't know why NASCAR drivers think they can hop out of a car and chase down a driver, ON TRACK, and think nothing will happen. You don't never see that happen in real motorsports. Only in NASCAR.

It definitely appears Tony saw him and instead of avoiding the driver he hit the throttle and kicked the rear end out trying to throw dirt at him but ran him over instead. Shame on the dead driver for trying to confront Stewart on track but it was an intentional asshat maneuver that resulted in the death. I don't follow this type of racing but I understand that Tony is a real hot head and this is just his typical behavior.

That's the most likely truth. They were BOTH being asshats.

I just saw a dude walking out in the middle of a race in the middle of the track, on dirt where cars are going really fast and got hit.

Thoughts and prayers to families affected by this tragedy.

Racing is dangerous, and any time we lose someone, it affects us all.

Tony Stewart has been a douchebag since day one, but that wouldn't have happened if the other guy had stayed in his car. It's not a reality tv show, it's an auto race.

From the video it looks like the wing hit him.

Can't tell if the driver was trying to get close to him and scare him and didn't account for the wing height hitting him.

Or the guy running got to close and didn't think it would hit him.

I hope there are more camera angles because if that is the only shot, there is no way the driver is going to be convicted of anything or banned from racing anywhere IMO

When he goosed the accelerator, his tires were turned toward the outside of the track. It looks like he tried to avoid him. But the size of the wing basically means that is impossible, and you can't hope to avoid someone on a dirt track if you only see them at the last second.

Other factors to consider, their visors are probably 50% occluded by mud, when drifting, you look at where you want to go, not where you are going, likely Tony wasn't even looking in the direction of Kevin Ward, and didn't see him until the last second when Mr. Ward was basically standing in front of the car. Mr. Ward was wearing black, at night, on a dirt track... It's pretty hard for the camera to see him!
