Recommendations for powder coating wheels?

Well today sucked, I curbed one of my wheels. Anybody know a good place to refinish the lip and powder coat all 4? Preferably near by Stockton? Name: uploadfromtaptalk1398747902140.jpg

I have read many times that powder coating wheels is not safe if it is not done by the manufacture. Apparently most aftermarket places use higher heat during the powder coating process which can change the properties of the metal, making it weaker. Do some research and read for yourself.

Just a warning....

Precision Coating and Stripping in Lodi.

Yes, some wheels cant take the heat and may bend/warp. However hundreds upon hundreds of people ride around on powdercoated wheels every day and even race on them without dying. You should be fine but couod always ask the powdercoater about heat related risks depending on wheel material.

^ This. I was out $2400 because this company said that it would not be a problem to powder coat my rims. I do not think the shop knew that they were forged aluminum, which, if baked, must be at a lower degree than most other wheels. At the end of the day, 3 out of 4 of my rims would warp after a week of driving (even after I had a wheel shop straighten them). Ended up having to buy some new rims on my own dime.

I would only take my wheels to a powder coating shop that specializes in powder coating wheels. I made the mistake to just take it to a powder coating shop that powder coats everything, and therefore, the shop just assumed they could bake my forged aluminum rims just like any other piece that they have powder coated in the past.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

I have an acquaintance who bought a used Porsche 911. He had a wheel crack on him and he was holding Porsche responsible. After the Porsche techs investigated they found the previous owner powder coated the wheels a subtly darker shade which compromised the strength of the wheels.

I would just look at replacing the wheel now... especially since your wheel is affordable and plentiful.

Edit: You might also look into plastidip. I've seen people using that on wheels recently and it looks pretty decent.

Any good coating place will have a low temp processes for wheels. And if they wheels are cheaper cast (like Rota) the high heat doesn't really hurt the wheel.

What wheels were they?

Unfortunately I let one of my friends take the car out for a drive, as he has been wanting one. He said he took the on ramp too fast and slid the car into the curb. That the story he told me. At least it was just the wheels and nothing else.

Go get your alignment checked. If he tapped a curb it may not all be straight.

^ This. When I hit a curb with my previous car, I ended up bending the front rim and rear hub

I'm sure the wheel is not bent, looks more like a side hit. And the car still drives straight when I let go of the steering. But I am going to redo the alignment as soon as I receive my coil overs. Hope in a week or two. I probably take the wheels off this weekend and look for any damage.
