4th Gear is gone :/
4th gear is gone. Any suggestions on replacements or where I can go to replace?
The car is still drivable, I just don't have a 4th. |

Here at TX2K. Doing some test hits. I just shifted from 3rd to 4th like I normally do an boom. There goes 4th. Idk if I made a mistake in my shifting or what. The car is at 18psi right now so it is making only 440ish/330ish.

you'll have to crack the case and see what damage is done. If you an get a print out of the transmission internals from the dealer, they can order the pieces you need individually.
If you just sheared 4th, might not be too bad. I would however be careful how much you drive it with shavings and loose bits floating around in there.

So you shifted to 4th. Did it go in? When you released the clutch did it begin to catch then made a noise, then nothing? Or did you get in and just nothing? Now that it is "gone" what happens? Can you get through the gate to where it use to be and nothing? Now is there noise where 4th used to be? Was it grinding a lot before this? Has it ever slipped out of gear? I have just spent the last 4 days disassembling & rebuilding a man trans for my other car, so I have a very good picture of what it looks like inside. And 4th is usually not the gear that gives up first if you drive you car hard. |

Not all manual transmissions are the same, however I will say it's safe to say with the size of the frs/brz housing that the gear diameters aren't going to be very large by any means. Smaller gears, smaller teeth, weaker... Similar to how most Subaru 5 speed transmissions go(along with 1st gear launches). Shredding 3rd gear while on heavy(max) load due to limited housing space and having to use small gear sizes.

By not telling me what part of my post "comes off as ignorant" makes you sound ignorant.
Each "gear" is actually TWO gears. One on the lay shaft and one on the drive shaft. If you are in a gear that is "smaller", then the gear on the opposite shaft is "bigger". So EVERY gear has one smaller and on larger gear, so I fail to see your point. What is the smallest gear in a gear stack? Usually the one opposite 1st gear (which is the largest diameter gear). So if you think the "smallest" gear would break first, then the gear opposite the large gear on first is the smallest in the tranny. And the actual "gears" that do the driving are far less likely to fail than the dog teeth that engage them. The gear that usually gives out first in a manual trans is 2nd because the synchros and the dog teeth take the most abuse. Is that ignorant enough for you? Quote:

That is weird how its just gone if you shifted it fine and it just gave out it's due to either a weak part or your torque/power which you said is about like 4-5 different cars here on the forum still going strong. I too would like to hear more on the story.. Like mentioned not every car is the same some may last some may not.
