When would you consider modding pulleys?

Hi all,

Quick question for those who have / plan to have pulleys - at what stage of modding would you get these? I've got CBE and Wheels on order, already have a tune. Debating whether I should save first for suspension setup or get the pulleys.

I know many will probably suggest suspension first but I'd like to ride on stock for a (perhaps throw on some bolts).

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Pulleys add very little to the cars performance for what they cost. There are much better ways of spending your money if that is what you are after.

My next step would be to finish off your exhaust. Header will make the most power for your money. I would also recommend grabbing an over pipe when you grab your header, since the OP is MUCH easier to install (and some OP's are only possible to install) with the header off. after those two pieces, finish it off with a nice front pipe. =)

adding pulleys is a good addition to your build, but like most of us have already said get your bolts since that will probably get you more noticeable gains.

not much to mod. intake, exhaust, header, pulleys, tune.

btw. the pulleys make a bigger difference than the exhaust and about half the price.. i would do intake first then pulleys, header, exhaust, and finish with a tune.

exhaust is the lowest gains and most expensive

You'd suggest an Intake then pulleys before a header?!

Most intakes are absolute crap and pulleys and very little. Headers and a tune should be the very first mod for anyone looking for power gains. Both a header and tune can be had for around the price of a decent CBE with shiv's OFT/OFH combo.

what intake do you have?
i have the injen intake (+~11hp +~11tq dyno proven, thats not crap)
do you have a pulley kit on your twin? my pulley kit made a nice difference. the car revs up quicker and there is more power.

if you r just going for a little power then headers and a tune is fine. but if you plan on an intake and exhaust it would be a waste to get a tune just to have to retune later when you get the intake and exhaust.

if your not looking to do every bolt on then id say go with an injen intake ~250, pulley kit ~300, then tune ~600 = 1150 best bang for the buck

headers do alot for this car but if your not doing everything you dont need a header.

best power mod for the price... injen intake ~250

your just being silly. I had the injen ram intake and it was nothing but problems and loss in performance. Headers and tune will grant you the most power in an NA applications. End of story. Forced induction is a different story. I disagree with you in that pulleys are a game changer in terms of performance. Maybe peddle feel but on a dyno not so much.

did you get those dyno/stats for injen off their website or did you dyno yourself? Their has been a lot of research on intakes for this car and nothing has really proven to be worth its cost.. drop in filter proves to be the best bang.

This. When I had my engine pulley replaced with a Perrin unit I was not sure if I could tell a difference or whether I was just placebo-ing it. (Yeah, placebo as a verb.) It was suggested by a gentleman on these forums that there is a more noticeable difference when going back to a heavier pulley.

Subjectively (butt dyno) there was a more noticeable gain when I replaced the over-pipe but as I say that is not proven.

If you look at dyno graphs for Nameless or JDL headers you will see a definite improvement.

To me that reads like total mis-information.

These forums have many threads on the issues that people have had with the Injen intake.

say what you want. i know the injen made power. and while many had problems with it. i did not.

i put intake on by its self. then back to stock. exhaust by its self. then back to stock, pulleys by them self, then back to stock and so on. and i raced stock frs each time to determine what was better gains. so i know that it made good power. exhaust was about tripple the price and maybe half the power.
