Power
You may have seen my previous post about deciding between the FRS and Camaro SS and I have decided to go with the FRS and on that note.
What all have you done performance wise? What can I do to get the most out of the car without having to replace the stock internals? |

Better yet try living with the car as is to see if you really want more power. My FR-S has considerably less horsepower than my last car but I don't really notice it, if anything it manages to feel faster. I'm just saying this because if you decide to stick with your NA engine you'll save alot in terms of fuel economy, and cash saved (as opposed to being spent on turbo kit and install). The Mods I'd recommend most would be better tires and exhaust.

Try the car without the needed power first.
I came from a car with more torque... but this car feels faster because of the light weight nature of the car. Really enjoying the car because of the smaller engine, I don't use as much gas. |

Curious as to why you decided to go from a 323hp V6 Camaro, to a 200hp(if lucky) FR-S over a 426hp Camaro SS V8 when raw power is of interest to you.
Looks, mileage..? |

From the day I saw the first commercial for the frs I had decided I was going to have one. The frs is about the same speed wise. The frs is more appealing because I like to go down curvy backroads and the camaro won't be as fun. But my buddies and I also like to go out and drag race at the local strip. From the looks of what I'm reading you can get some good power out of the frs and in such a,lightweight car you can keep up with the v8s pretty well. Plus, this will be cheaper on gas and insurance than the ss.

C'mon seriously? I want more... I've owned mine for 2.5 years and want more! I however, DO agree with your basic mod plan... let me meet those requirements and I'll see how I feel then.

Headers + Tune will get you a good 20 hp along with a new catback, air filter, air air intake, bolts on, and little things which will add up. Glad you chose the FRS, have fun with it!

If you want a fast car it might be a good idea to buy a fast car. No matter what modifications you do to an FRS it is still a small engined light car.
The first thing you do when you decide to race motorcycles is decide what class you want to race in. My choices in Japan were 125cc, 250cc, 600cc, 750cc and unlimited superbike. If you want to race a big, fast machine it might be a good idea not to choose a 125cc or 250cc two stroke racing machine. The way you race lightweight two strokes is different than the way you race 750cc or 1000cc machines. The smaller machines are all momentum based, don't slow down, don't use the brakes! The big bikes you just brake, get turned and then nail the throttle. I think the Camaro SS/Mustang GT and the FRS situation is very similar - the bigger, heavier, faster cars are more point and shoot and the FRS is more like a momentum based lightweight two stroke racebike. It should be pretty clear in your mind which you want to ride. But trying to make one into the other doesn't make sense to me. The thing is is that the lighter machines are faster in the corners and the bigger machines are faster on the straights - sound familiar with all of the chatter on here regarding which car to buy and which is faster and which is better. It's just a question of how do you want to go about your speed? If you put it in those terms it is actually quite simple. Do you want to ride a 250cc or a 750cc. The guys that get it realize the 250's were faster than the 750's on all but the longest tracks. The big bikes blow by you on the straights and you reel them in on the corners, passing them with your knee on the ground or as you brake. When I see track videos of the FRS that is what I usually see happening, the faster cars blow by and the FRS reels them in with brakes and cornering. |
