K&N air filter .... any concerns ..??
Hi Folks,
I just ordered a K&N drop in air filter for my FR-S. Does anybody who has had this type of oiled air filter installed, have any concerns about the oil gumming up the MAF sensor or clogging up the throttle body .. ?? Any general comments..?? TIA humfrz |

I have one, and have used k&n oiled filters on my last 5 cars... I've found them to be great at flowing, and also great at catching particulates...
If you don't oil the hell out of them when you clean them, you'll be fine, just lightly mist coat both sides, wait 1 min, apply mist coat #2, done... Not a "wet" coating by any means... Personally I think the factory coat of oil on them is too heavy, and I blot mine with a paper towel or a rag before I install... Oil free filters do clean easier, and require less maintaince depending on composition material, but personally I've always had good experiences with every one I've ever had, no need to switch IMO.. ONLY coat the inlet (towards bumper) side and evenly and lightly and zero concerns on these.

The main thing to know about these is that after you clean and rinse them, make sure they are 100% COMPLETELY DRY before you oil them and reinstall them.. Running the engine on a damp filter or semi dry will rip and shred the filter material, you don't want that...
