Driveby: Turbo BRZ

Well, I received the car on July 5th of last year, on the day I bought it I knew I wouldn't keep it stock so I canceled the warranty. I know I'm a bit late to the party, but the first mods I did were the Perrin crank pulley and the Takeda intake.

Soon after I installed the full Milltek exhaust system (Overpipe, Cat-delete, Catback) and the Rally Armor mudflaps. The exhaust system really gave it a deep tone and the best part about it is it didn't make it sound ricey at all. I was actually surprised with how quiet the system actually is. It doesn't sound obnoxiously loud, but still gives a mean "professional" sound if that makes sense. With these combinations it gave my car an intial 178rwhp 140ft/lb reading on the dyno prior to turbo.

Then came probably the most insignificant and taken for granted mod, but probably my personal favorite the Password: JDM Brass Knuckle shift knob. Now it said universal on their website, but I supposed they meant universal for Hondas... Not wanting to deal with the hassle of getting my money back and waiting for a direct fit, I had to tap out the knob to correct thread pitch. One thing I was worried about was it clearing the lifty part of the shifter, luckily it wasn't affected. I really didn't think it would make a difference but honestly it improved shifting for me drastically (though I am probably being very generous with the word), but it weighs a ton and falls right into place.

Tired of rolling on stock wheels and snow tires, I decided a drastic improvement in grip was necessary to accommodate my future turbo. So I got a set of 225/45/17 Michelin Super Sport Pilots to wrap my bronze Sparco Asseto Garas. It is almost impossible to lose grip with these tires they are literally stickier than the stickiest of icky ickies. Only thing that sucked is drifting would not happen, but you can take a corner at +90 speeds. So it was a fair enough trade off if you want to feel about as confident as an F1 driver lol. I literally felt fearless with these tires.

This particular mod I knew I was going to do before the car even came out. S2000 owners everywhere hated me for this, but what did I care this isn't a Honda hahaha. I went all in cards on the table for forced induction. When I was on my search for the right kit to put on the car it came down to the reputation of the company, the design, and overall performance. I didn't want a dyno queen setup that could blow the next day... too many no name shops popped out the woodwork for this car. I didn't to wait for my power to come in at the higher rpms "this isn't vtec yo", I wanted a fairly linear placement of power through out the band. I also didn't want a sloppy mess under the hood that I've seen with other kits or anything too "showy jdm". Hence why I chose the AVO turbo kit. Very simple, very stealth, and has power right NOW. Though I am downtuned drastically due to my mistake of keeping stock clutch (mine is kinda bad lol) and the shitty gas quality that is 91 octane I got a good 240rwhp and 185ft/lbs on 5psi and sub91 gas. Tuned by Drift Office @ Auburn, WA.

And a video of my car on their dyno, this is very modestly tuned btw.

That about wraps up what I've done as of 25,000 miles now. I have lots still in store a SPEC Stage +2 clutch and lightweight flywheel, Max coilovers, a pair of decent sway bars, AP Racing front brake kit, Engine mounts, an updated tune to put me around 230-250ft/lbs of torque putting me at my 300-350rwhp goal, a CF drive shaft from DSS, an R Magic CF wing, and maybe a carbon fiber roof. I know that is a ridiculously tall order but it will all be worth it in the end.

I forgot to mention, the name "Driveby" came from the backfire my car produces. It sounds like gunshots lmao.

No problem I just recently went with an ACT clutch kit with the prolite flywheel (10.5lbs). I will add a picture of it and my thoughts on it when I break it in.

No problem, I've done all this with my own funds so progress is determined by starvation lol. Maybe one day I could get discount deals.

Tuned in for updates! I may be pursuing the AVO kit in the future as well. Nice progress!
