for those of us who don't live and breathe autox/SCCA ... what does it mean? BRZ/FRS too fast or slow for CS? Politics? Gerrymandering? What competition will it face in ES?

There were some Powers to be that think the twins were too slow for CS...for 2 reasons..gearing and the dip... and wrote a bunch of letters to the SEB to have the car moved from CS... Locally it was pretty competitive in CS.. Nationally, well lets just say alot of people whined that they couldn't win with it... hence the proposal...

We'll see how it plays out...

At least in my region (San Francisco Region) it means the twins main competition in ES would be the NB Miatas.

I'm interested to see if the ES proposal is approved. When I get my BRZ I should have some competition next year either way.

in my FR-S, I can keep up with the MSR/370Z on courses that do not have slow turns
followed by acceleration zones ('13 Texas Tour). But if the course drops me below
~3800 rpm then I got my ass handed to me ('13 Lincoln Tour). ymmv.

i will probably write in support of the move to ES although I think CS may take a
while to get populated with regular MX-5 cars.

I have read quite a few opinions opposed to it, so I don't know if it will succeed.

The original letters written to move it to GS I think highlighted the short 2nd gear and intrusive rev limiter as big issues. I think 2 of the four who wrote those letters have already sold their cars...

Well, I received my email today that my letter was reviewed and we'll get our next round of updates in the upcoming fastrack.

FWIW I wrote in support of the move for the following reasons:

1) I anticipate this to be a complete reset of ES... Which is a class that has been needing a reset since 2006. The class is likely to be re-valved around the generic performance capabilities of the FR-S/BRZ. Basically a momentum car class with higher performance level than the previous MK2 MR2 / NA Miata wars. I don't anticipate this class staying as it is listed in the last fastrack... more shuffling to come.

2) At somepoint in the near future there will be hot versions of the FR-S / BRZ offered that will have better performance capability... Whether that be track-pack suspensions, like the BRZ S which was announced for Austrailia, or the STi version. This move will allow those cars to be classed in either CS or BS without disrupting competitiveness for the base level models.

The whole thing has just become such a garbled mess that at some point, we'll have to stop bench racing the baseline "street" classes and go run them and make adjustments as needed.

In my local group i run with some RX-8's and we seem to be very close in times with my car being almost showroom stock and the rx8s about the same. This is also with average local drivers. This is just one example but I've seen 370'zs and mx5s run close times also. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the class the way it is now. But im not a national level driver so maybe by opinion has no impact.

More to the point is you are comparing cars which are essentially showroom, you have to class based on vehicle potential at the extents of the rules.

This country voted for a president based solely on potential and look how that is working out. Lol
Im just saying that in my area when my driving skills get as good as others, i have a very good chance of beating out the competition. We avg about 100 cars at any given event and about 10 to 15 cars in RTR... Just my 2c

BRZ/FR-S back to CS.

They also have a classing for a "BRZ/STi" in STU. So they classed a car which doesn't exist even on paper. Edit: Apparently this was a joke from the STAC and got left in the minutes. Won't be in the final version.
