HKS Supercharger with restrictor plate installed and dyno'd

Recently we just finished up the HKS Supercharged FR-S and felt like sharing a little bit about it.

Specs:
HKS Supercharger (With Restrictor Plate Installed)
HKS Super Fire Spark Plugs
HKS Hi power Spec-L Exhaust
PPE Long Tube Header
Ishii Motor Industries Oil Cooler Kit
ECUTEK
KW Variant 3 Coil Overs
Ishii Motor Industries Fog Light Kit
and a few other goodies such as NAV and Tinted windows.

Ran with out of the Pump Seattle Washington 92 octane gas.

Pretty much a basic install of the HKS Supercharger kit. We installed the kit with the Supercharger restrictor plate on the inlet of the Supercharger.

Basically the only differences we did from what the HKS Instructions state was using a few rubber insulated clamps with slightly different routing of the S/C oil lines.
We also polished up a few of the pipes as they come natural.

The other thing different here is we did a variation of our Oil cooler kit.
We always remote mount the filter in the front left corner but for this system we used a different Cooler core. The core is a 25 row that fits perfectly between the Intercooler and S/C oil cooler.
This required a bit of change to the provided HKS brackets and a lot of change to the oil cooler bracket.

The car was brought down to our friends at Drift Office and Dyno’d.
Drift Office is the place to go around here for 86 dynoing as most all 86s in the area have been dynoed there!
I’ll let the dyno sheet do the talking. But keep in mind this dyno is with a restrictor plate.

As usual HKS really came through with a thought out system. All the parts could be passed off as factory(minus the HKS labeling everywhere). Very easy install and just beautiful fitment.

Ishii

I'll throw in a video after I get back on Monday and in all seriousness, I'll add that the car performed FLAWLESSLY, largely due in part to the install quality (I hear Steve Ishii is very, VERY meticulous) and it was VERY happy on the dyno! Runs were SUPER CLEAN too as you can see. Expect to see more of this later...

@Ishii Motors ~ why not post up the dyno plot of the final run @ 7PSI?

Cheers!

We are going in stages. This is how the kit was intended to run out of the box. Furthermore, havn't seen anyone ever post about it. So here is what it'll do as is!

@Drift-Office kudos for managing to smooth the dyno plot out and having no dip in the 6.x K area seems like you are one of the few whom managed to do it !

The answer you are looking for is that the supercharger is actually pulley'd to give more than 7-8 psi (i think it is 13 psi) of boost. The restrictor plate limits the amount of airflow the supercharger can ingest there by limiting boost pressure.

When the plate is removed the supercharger can produce max boost.

It is sorta like running a smaller pulley.

They ship with this plate because most people will not have the mods to support more boost. You will probably need injectors and fuel pump to run without a plate.

So potentially with a larger pulley a "low boost" setup will make about about 5 to 10 more hp; making up for the (unused) pumping losses.
