Brembo conversion problem
So yes I have searched and read all the available topics through and through and even posted in some of them.
I have my 2008 STi Brembos and tried to remove an allen screw in order to switch the bleeder to the other side. I used a 3/8 socket allen wrench to remove it and it tore through the screw. So now I have to use an extractor to take it out but if I do that I won't have a replacement screw to put back in. I could just put in another bleeder and have bleeders on both ends. I could just install them with the bleeder on the bottom but use a piece of wood and bleed the caliper while its unbolted. I could install them upside down. If anyone knows where I can get replacement allen screws that would be great. However I do not think removing these screws is a simple job and I have a feeling the other 3 will probably follow suit. Let me know what you think and TIA. |

I read several people suggest using a torch to heat them up before trying to remove them.

Yeah I saw that too but I tried doing it without torching it though. Even if I did get it out I would need to replace the screw and I have no idea where to get a new one.

you could also try a torx bit, the six point star can grab and dig into the hex shape, where a standard hex bit can sometimes ramp itself out once it rounds off just a bit, which only makes the problem worse.
I also recommend a good quality set of L hex wrenches, the black coated anti-corrosive type seems to always do the trick where other shiny/chromed finishes failed because they slip too easily. Bondhus brand always worked extremely well for me, great quality. The black surface of these will feel dry and almost abrasive. Bicycle shops sell an awesome 3-way Y-shaped hex tool made by Park tools made of the same stuff. It has 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm and is extremely handy. I don't recall ever having a hex bit strip with these after many years of daily use as a mechanic. http://www.bondhus.com/bondhus_produ...hes/index.html http://www.parktool.com/product/3-way-hex-wrench-aws-1 |

My local hardware store has Allen plugs.. I don't see why this wouldn't work.. I personally would just do what you said if and when I get a set of these.. Just bleed them with a board or something between the pads.. I even have caliper to olds, is id use them.. But I wouldn't o thought the hassle of removing the screws.. I am looking for a good set on eBay lol
On a side question.. Which calipers bolt up.. Just the WRX STI ones??? |

I am sorry i was confusing helicoil with another product.
i mean use one of those reverse thread things that you can drill into the bolt and then unscrew |
