Wife's new ride...

I think I mentioned that the wife saw a Hyundai Santa Cruz and fell in lust with it. Long story short, she tried four different dealers and got the run around. I really need to write a book about this shit!
Anyway, she decided to sell her 2016 STi, (which was my bad weather fun machine). Well, it finally went and is there ever a story there but, I’ll refrain from going into the details. So with cash in hand she went looking for something else. Didn’t like this one, that one was too expensive, nothing was grabbing her. Then in an off chance she had me drive past the local Subaru dealer. They had just got a load of 2024 Crosstreks. They had a Sunburst Wilderness Edition in the showroom. She liked it, wanted it and wouldn’t you knew it, it had just sold. However, they had three others, one in Blue, one in grey like her 2022 limited and the last one in white. Nope, none of them did it for her. The manager said there was a black one due in two days. She said she’d be back to see it but had told me she never wanted another black vehicle. She stopped in after work just after it had been dropped off. Fell instantly in love with it and made a deal. Well, there was a lot more to it but I’ll write about that another time.
So we are now a two Crystal Black Silica Subaru family. (I spit on Hyundai!)

Nice car, use it well.

I like your wife's vintage style glasses. Similar to my sister's grade 1 picture in 1967.

Too bad she couldn't trade in the STI and then only need to pay tax on the difference amount. But then again, you probably got that much more for selling the vehicle privately.

Looked at a telluride before we got our cx9

dealer was ATROCIOUS. So much so that even though we liked the car we just decided to get the mazda.

Hyundai/kia really need to clean up their dealers.

I tease her about those glasses all the time. I do not like them on anyone because you're correct. They look like they are straight out of our childhood.

She says this is her last new vehicle. The idea was to sell one and trade in the other. She had buyers lined up for her 2022 Crosstrek so we tried trading the STi. Problem was every stealership offered less than the one before. Highest offer was $21,000. She wholesaled it herself to a specialty high end car shop for $25,000. He already had a buyer for it at $29,000. The car was for sale all summer and only one 23 year old guy came to look at it. He was talking $26,000 but had to think about it. Then wanted his father to come see it. She took the $25k offer and ran to the bank. Only to find out that it was closed for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The bank was also closed the following Monday for the same reason. When she deposited the bank draft on the Tuesday morning she was told there would be a five business days hold on it. I later found out that the five days started at midnight so really 12:01 Wednesday morning. The following Monday was our Thanksgiving. So, those five business days turned into 12 full days as they weren’t going to release the funds until the Thursday morning. She finally got to speak with someone she knew and was able to make the deal on Wednesday, a whole day early.
Basically the same thing happened to her 2022 Limited. Her buyers disappeared and the trade-in values were way lower than Black Book. But, she pushed and a buyer came through so she got the deal she was hoping for. STi paid off what she owned on the Crosstrek and the sale of her Ducati more than made up the difference. So she has a brand new Wilderness free and clear. J

Subaru's get shit on alot by reviewers and enthusiasts for some reason....but they're goddam popular and it used to never really be on my radar. Wasnt really until i owned this 86 that i got more interested in Subarus. Im even contemplating a WRX (the cladding version) as a potential eventual size-up if-i-keep-a-stick-shift replacement for the 86.

A friend's brother a long time ago was looking for a car, and the usual suspects (Toyota, Honda, Mazda, etc) were ruled out in favor of an Impreza.

I have another friend who used to drive an RX8 (i think he had to replace the engine twice and he was glad to see it gone, thing was too finicky to deal with in wintertime). I think he swapped it for an Impreza. The girl he started dating (who ended up becoming his wife) also happened to own an impreza. It hought they might also have gotten a Legacy recently which replaced the older impreza but i cant remember.
They do alot of winter snowboarding so this is a good vehicle to have.

A co-worker of mine was looking for a new vehicle when her first gen jeep compass started become a pit of dispair. She seemed gravitated towards Subaru and eventually settled on a 2024 Forester.

They've got great mass appeal despite not being the most fuel efficient cars out there.

Around dusk with dark, rainy, overcast sky I can't get over how well black and grey cars can blend into the background.

I'm not familiar with the model so I had a quick look on the Aus Subaru website. It is marketed as a "compact SUV". There's an oxymoron for you.

In the US (or at least in Georgia and Florida) it seems the market is turning towards a buyer's market.

I've had two sons buy a car in the last 30 days.

One son traded in his 2014 Focus that had previous transmission problems (repaired but we didn't trust it). He got KBB retail price as a trade-in, and got a 2022 Kia K5 (used) for under KKB retail, and the dealer dropped all junk fees on first ask.

Second son traded in a Honda Passport with 150K miles because the AC system needed an overhaul (diagnosed with metal in the system, but the diagnosis process cleared out the metal. Estimate on the repair $5K). Got $1,000 over KBB retail for his trade at a Toyota dealer in FL, and $2K under MSRP on a new Toyota Highlander. The dealer also adds a 20year/200K powertrain warranty at "no cost" to all their vehicles.

That exhaust looks good on the BRZ.

New Crosstreks actually look decent. I like the more basic approach Subaru still uses for interiors. One of the reasons I steered my wife to a Impreza sedan before they discontinued sedan model.

Luv the Greddy exhaust, nice low rumble at idle. Not obnoxiously loud with just enough raspiness and doesn't drone at highway speed. Very pleased with that purchase, thanks every so much.

The Wilderness Edition, like my tS, has a lot of flat/muted black interrior pieces. Its quite nice after the chrome and shiny silver of her 2022 Limited. However, we both preferred the info system in her old Crosstrek to the huge tablet in this new one. Really miss not having a CD player. Yeah I know, it's a boomer thing.
