Tiny chip in Windshield

While driving into work this morning I heard the signature sound of a rock bouncing off the windshield. No idea where it came from since the car in front of me was at least 200 yards ahead and I was only going 45mph. Anyways it's very tiny and completely superficial and normally I wouldn't care but in this case it's staring me right in the face.

Anything I can do myself to repair it?

I wouldn't let Safelite touch my car again if they paid ME.

I had several windows replaced after someone used a brick to scratch up three windows in my car. The tech they sent out was totally clueless apparently because he spent hours and hours doing the job. He scratched up numerous interior panels, one of the doors didn't lock or latch properly, there were a whole host of new rattles, and my driver's door didn't close right anymore.

Complained (because they're supposed to have a lifetime warranty or whatever) and they sent another tech out who fixed the door latch but didn't do shit about anything else. My insurer (USAA) is partnered with them and promotes them when you call about glass. I've explained my complaints several times and asked, "Who do I talk to about getting these things fixed?" Neither USAA or Safelite will own up to the damage/shoddy workmanship despite the "lifetime" warranty. I don't even know what the hell that would mean concerning glass. It is glass, it gets pitted over time or can be otherwise damaged. The glass probably isn't going to just explode/fail on its own given modern auto glass standards.

I live in MA so I had Giant Glass do my windshield last time I needed (after repeatedly refusing to use Safelite) and they were awesome. The woman from Giant Glass got on the phone with my insurance company and told them what was up. No bullshit. Did a good/quick job replacing the windshield.

I'm looking for more of a DIY solution. This is a tiny tiny chip, no need to get insurance involved.

I'm seeing quite a few windshield repair kits quite cheap on Amazon. Anybody recommend a brand?

Weird. I just had Safelite come out and do my windshield and the guy did a pretty good job. I'm guessing Safelite is like Maaco in that it's just a name people stick on a franchise and your results are going to vary wildly depending on the skill of the people working there.

I used Salem Safelite btw.

I have a tiny chip on my forester so I'm curious if anyone has had any success with DIY repair? I might just get some epoxy and ghetto it since its on my beater.

I had safelite come out to fill a small chip in my windshield a couple years ago. The technician came to my work which was nice. I pulled my car in to the receiving bay so it was covered and he started talking to one of my co-workers. He made a handful of lewd comments about the sexual acts he would have preferred to perform on said co-worker. When he decided to start working on my windshield he leaned across to the passenger side (rather than walking around and not leaning over) and started gouging the chip with his pick. He then used my windshield as a springboard to push off of to stand back up, and in the process sent a crack all the way across it. He then stepped back and said, "Well it cracked. I can't fill that. You are going to need buy a new one now".

I sent him away and called to complain about his conduct and quality of work. They gave me a free windshield. I won't ever use them again.

the kit from amazon worked well enough. functionally, its perfect. chip was patched flat, hasn't grown or anything. visually, i can tell where the chip was if i look closely, but its still subtle. it also doesn't help that i know exactly where it is.

if you just have a surface chip, i'd say its worth a shot.
