VSC - where is the firmware for it?

Probably a huge long shot, but the root of this is wondering if it's possible to get the 2017+ track mode programming to an earlier ECU? I know it would be really handy for new people to get out of shape (since sport mode is way too restrictive) without running without any safeguards at all.

I haven't found if it's even on the main ECU, or a secondary one... but I haven't dug *that* hard yet.

It would be nice if we could get updated maps for this. I'd love to have my sport mode halfway between current sport and 'off'.

Wider allowed slip angle would be nice .. but imho even better for MY2017 track mode is way it engages, way less abrupt/annoying.
Being pessimistic (i call it pragmatic/realistic) imho to sell better new ones Toyota will never port it for older cars, and it may very probably result in too difficult to hack/port by community themselves. So i put 95% on chance to never see newer VSC/track-mode on mine, even though i'd be ready to shell out for that eg. 1K$ if it had been possible.

I have zero expectation of Toyota/Subaru offering it to older models, but someone in the community might be interested in taking it on.

Unless you can just plug in the 2017 VSC computer into an older car and it runs :-) unlikely but possible.

Unlikely that anyone is going to reverse engineer the vsc computer
1. it may not be flash programmable
2. Legal minefield

Your current option is ecutek , you can disable the cars VSC/Traction with the long button push.

then you can use ecutek to program in your own traction control (not stability) inputs are 4 wheel speed sensors and steering angle , you can control throttle and engine torque as outputs.

moto East currently have this available in their tunes an option 2012-2017 cars. they call it Transition control

Still, would be interesting if someone would try. WHAT IF?
If that would work, i'm sure 2. won't matter to many around, as many use even much easier to detect mods "for offroad use only".
So we just need more totalled 2017 to roll in breaker yards
(bring squad of users shouting "totalled!" back!)

Is VSC definitely on a separate computer, or is it a different section of firmware on the main ECU?

It's definitely all in the brake actuator. Just looked it up in the manual. Even the gyros and accelerometers are all in there. I had no idea.

Yeah, and uses same wiring, and for toyota to not had gone for extra safeguards to prevent switch (such as physically different wiring/connectors (that might be possible to workaround though), check up in electronics for other installed chips & their versions (eg. expecting also MY2017 ecu & it's tune), that would mean much-much harder to workaround) and for it to get triggered in same way as VSC in older ones (are buttons on mid-console directly wired to it? or rather signals are passed via other stages, eg. main ECU, that may change how/when it works and interpret signals from elsewhere too (eg. parking brake / main brake / engine temperature sensors that are used in pedal-dance)). - After all, if it will work with drop-in replacement in default all-nannies-on mode, it's not exactly fully-functional replacement, unless one can with new one also switch to that track mode, or TRC long press off, or completely off with pedal dance.
I hope though for Toyota to keep things simple and to not have designed in incompatible changes, rather reusing as is what had worked including other controls/sensors/chips/tune intercommunication and wiring. We still need guinea pig & totalled MY2017 for parts donor

BTW, which manual? Can you link in those pages if that is somewhere online/freely available?
