Frameless Gentex mirror is amazing!

I installed this a couple of weeks ago.

Folks, the beauty of this mirror is not reflected (pun intended) adequately by my pic - I've taken a dozen photos of it and just can't seem to nail what a joy it is to look at. So this one taken as my very winter dirty BRZ received a touchless bath is the best I can do for now.

And we haven't even touched on function yet.

Let's touch on function.

I bought this for the frameless, HomeLink, and auto-dimming features (skipped the compass function intentionally).

Frameless - see paragraph 1.

HomeLink - no brainer - programs and works like a charm.

Auto-dimming?

Sigh.

Mirror heaven.

Our cars are pretty much the lowest of the low (in a good way of course). My first night drive with this thing totally confounded me. Why? Because I expected drama . . . and there was none.

This mirror just plain works, quickly and totally unobtrusively, to shield yer precious eyeballs. In fact, although my intention was to gauge this thing's effectiveness that first night drive, I just plain forgot it was there, so good was it at dumbing down those ever looming lumens astern.

I've got about ten grand into this car aftermarket, and this has vaulted to number one status as my favourite mod. I continue to marvel at how Mr. Deeds it is.

I bough this on Amazon from: http://www.americansecurityco.com/

Fast shipping, and a question I had was answered quickly by this company.

I can definitely relate to small mods quickly becoming your favourite. For me, it was my armrest.

I keep meaning to look into these mirrors, maybe this'll give me the kick in the pants I need.

It truly is frameless. My pic seems to show a frame, but it's just the edge area of the mirror that doesn't dim appearing to be a frame.

Volvo actually makes a frameless mirror that looks similar if not the same as our JDM one but with auto dimming and compass.

http://www.volvopartshop.com/mirror-...4--16878-p.asp

Not sure about the width tho. I have the twins JDM frameless mirror and it's great, the OEM Subaru Homelink one had a tendency to fall off due to its heavy weight.

Looking closely at this pic it seems the auto dimming area is also neither edge to edge.

I had a similar rear view mirror with backup camera + front DVR before I switch to just a DVR that supports backup camera input

I just measured it at 10" at its widest. I don't have the stock one now to compare it to.

What was the mirror-of-the-day a few years ago that was great until they all fell apart?

I am trying to install this mirror, but I'm having trouble powering it. I tried using the factory mirror harness in the car hidden up in the headliner, but for some reason that won't turn the mirror on...

Wiring the mirror directly to a battery does work, and I do get 12V out of the harness I spliced together, so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. It seems like the factory harness cant provide enough power to run it or something? That doesn't make much sense considering the OEM mirror also does dimming and homelink...
