2013 Scion FR-S hot ignition and key

Just got home from work and when I took the key out, it was very hot. The ignition and key hole on the steerin column were very hot as well. Anyone know what might be causing this or ever had a car do this? Taking in to Toyota tomorrow morning at 10am.

Does your car sit in the sun? My GTI had this issue. Its just the hot steering column transferring heat to your key.

Doesn't sound unusual to me. You live in Alabama it gets pretty hot over there, I'm in Texas and we deal with hot keys all the time.

I know they moved the power steering near the column... but not sure that's something to do it

Yeah it gets really hot here and it's only just in the 90s these days. But, the heat that came off the key and the ignition switch was hotter than my seat belt buckle. Hurt like hell
Like touching a pan on the stove.

Have you had any vehicles before with EPS? On especially hot days when I was living out in the desert the key for my S2K would be pretty warm after a long drive with lots of twisties. Don't know if that has anything to do with it but could be the EPS motor shedding heat?

Well, it's in the shop. Of course the issue isn't showing up now. They are gonna try and replicate it.

I'm petty sure this is my first EPS on a vehicle of mine. Had a 2001 Tacoma before the FR-S.

hmm...interesting..I had this the other day, but thought it was because of the weather. I'll see if this occurs again before heading to the dealership too.
