Code P000B

[CTB727]

So my CEL has been coming on and off over the past few weeks with a code P000B - cam position sensor slow response, bank 1 position B. Can someone tell me where exactly this is located?
I have searched everywhere and can't seem to pinpoint exactly where this is.
I bought a sensor from the dealer and hopefully this solves the issue. I'd imagine with the CEL being intermittent that it's a sensor issue, and not something mechanical.

have a look at the tsb here related to rough idle cam position and cam sensor shimming.

Unfortunatly it might not be as easy as the sensor


it could be the cam sprocket/actuator or the cam oil control valve that causing the slow response to ecu commands. ie the sensor is ok


or a problem with the ecu itself

Oh, my ..... @CTB727 since you don't know where it is ...... and from what steve99 says, I would recommend you take your car into a dealer ....

There are multiple cam sensors, in case you didn't know. I'm just trying to get to the correct one so I don't end up replacing a perfectly good sensor.

Also I read the about the cam sprocket TSB. My car exhibits NONE of the other symptoms or codes. So I will go with the sensor first.

yes that the reason I referred you to the TSB section


see here while this tsb is for cam position censor cam shimming it does show you can sensor location, and if you note it does not mention P000B

however I would suggest you read the TSB below as well it does mention P000B , it looks like you have not seen this one . note it does suggest multiple causes for the problem and requires extensive diagnostics and replacement of expensive components such as oil control valves, camsproket/actuator and ECU , but none of them being the cam sensor itself.

quite a logical suggestion, given the amount of diagnostics and expensive parts that can contribute to this issue, even the dealers have trouble with this problem.

Thanks. Just an update, bringing the car in to the dealer tomorrow. Found that position B is out of reach. Also not trying to take everything apart on my daily driver when I have a 60 mile daily commute.

Will let you all know what the issue is.

GL dude.. dealer has had my car in several times for this same issue replacing Oil control valve(OCV ) several times, cam sprocket, and ECU. They have had my car for 3+ weeks now with no idea on how to fix. I recently filed a Motor Vehicle Defect Notification with Subaru.

Well, $395 later. Apparently the powertrain warranty doesn't cover sensors? They replaced part number 10921AA230, valve assembly - oil control. Also says "replace bank one camshaft sensor to correct", even though a part number isn't listed or priced.

It's been nearly 1000 miles, and so far yes.

I'm speculating here but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if running 0W-20 in Florida for so long has caused some of my issues. I also had oil seepage that was repaired (under warranty) back in June.
