Michelin Phasing Out Pilot Super Sport

Wow. Basically the greatest summer tire is getting phased out for what Michelin believes is an even better one!

Greatest daily driver summer tire, absolutely. Not nearly the same grip level as the truly sticky summer tires though. I know my next daily set will be these, but as long as the PSS lasts, that may be years!

Loving my 255/40/18 PSS as well, they grip so well I can't even kick the back end out unless it's raining lol.

Very true . I thought about including "street" before "summer".

Huh, just got my first (and I suppose last) set of PSS's last week, sounds like they'll be available for awhile though considering that according to the article there isn't an implementation date for <19" wheels.

FYI, good deal at Costco this month, OE size was $150/ea mounted and balanced, $70 rebate, plus tax, iirc it was <$600 for a set. Usually they're $150+ at tirerack and you still have to pay to mount them.

I've long recommended the PSS and S-04 side by side for fun sporty DD/enthusiast tires, and I'm glad to see they are stepping it up once again. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I was wondering when these would come out, since it showed up at the Geneva Motor Show.

Considering how good the regular PS4 is(i believe you don't get them in the states?), the PSS needed a replacement. PS4 is remarkably close to PSS on dry conditions, but on the wet it's miles ahead.
From what i've seen the pattern is almost identical to the PS4 so i'd expect the "S" to step up on the dry, maybe losing some wet handling points compared to the standard PS4 and still being an improvement over Super Sport's in everything.

However we have to wait and see if PS4S will be available in smaller sizes, i am not sure the market has enough room for 3 sport/high performance tires (PS4, PS4S and PSC2)... It makes little sense to have something between PS4 and PSC2 right now, so this may lead to the PS4S being just a replacement for the PSS in "supercar" sizes.

It's already on the french site:

Definitely not the same tire(they are separated in Michelin France's website). The thread seems a bit different and i am guessing they're using a different compound.

Resolution and framerate. I believe the PS4S has 4k output and more VRAM.

In the UK, the only size available in the 17inch is 205/45... is this too narrow for the OEM wheel?

No. For x7 wheels supposedly minimum 195, ideal 205-215, max 225.
But yes, hating that stock 215/45R17 sized or 225/45R17 available only in US, EU ignored.
From own experience MPS4 falls a bit short for dual street/track use tire (though is very nice tire for DD only). Then again i don't see latest stock sized competitor tires of same class in Europe either, like eg. conti sport contact 6, goodyear eagle f1 supersport.

Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R looks interesting, a cross between the MPSS and I suppose the Michelin Cup, and available in the OEM fitment.

For tire to fit well as dual use, i think that it should have also good wet grip. AD08R imho is a bit lacking in that area.
