Considering moving to Washington state
Me and the GF are considering moving. Most of our general criteria is:
Moderate weather(we live in Iowa currently. Fuck winter) Good driving roads Race track preferred(currently about 150 miles from one. Closer would be great but not required) Low crime always preferred Lower cost of living(no Seattle) Higher average income Not middle of nowhere So what's the climate regions look like? Which cities/towns fit my criteria? I have been running CNC/machining equipment for years and she handles inventory/ordering/crane operation with a background in ordering/inventory control if that makes any difference @soulreapersteve |

Well just one question. What do you think of rain?
Also keep in mind that many of the riff raff from here lives in that neck of the woods.

I couldn't recommend it more. Felt it in my gut when I first visited 17 years ago that I would end up here. Been 11 years now and I haven't looked back.
I drive by PIR on my way to work and when the wind is right, from my backyard I can hear them running. edit: It's not nearly as rainy as it's made out to be. That's up in Seattle.

It can rain every night for all I care. I'd just prefer it be sunny during the day. All where exactly do you live Ultra?

With your skillsets the greater Seattle area could work out well with Boeing and Lockheed having significant operations up there demand for skilled labor is relatively high. You don't necessarily have to work there, lots of subcontracted operations for aerospace hardware will be in the area who need both your backgrounds. You'll see a bump in pay, but don't expect that to improve your quality of life in a meaningful way given the cost of everything will be more. The 'nice weather' tax.
This site claims 50-50 split between sunny and rainy, idk what happens the other ~60 days of the year they don't count. http://www.bestplaces.net/climate/ci...ington/seattle My one piece of advice is line up jobs for both of you before you make the plunge, it would suck to have one of you unemployed for a long period of time. It might be worth turning down the first offer if the SO doesn't have something in the works as well. |
