It's a boxer engine..take advantage of the setup and use UEL headers. The sound isn't for everyone, but if you go with a catted header (preference based on what your goals are for the car) the sound seems to even out a little at higher RPM.
From my brief research before buying my JDL catted UEL header, UEL usually means more torque and EL usually means more high end HP. This car can use all the help it can get in the torque department IMO. Hope this helps!

However, before you drag out the credit card ....... you may wish to wait to make any purchases till after you get the car. Sometimes, the power and handling will surprise you .... when it's right out of the box. First question to ask yourself is why do you want to change the exhaust .. ?? The answer will lead you to a header change or not. If you want a bit more sound, you don't have to change the header. If you want more power ........OK, this is where you hang on ....... because you don't know what the car will do until you get yours, get it broke in and "learn how to drive it". Personally, the only thing I changed on the exhaust is the muffler, which, gives my car more sound ..... and comes with 4" tips ...... humfrz |

I would definitely go with the UEL unless you're getting the EL Ace Header which is proven to be beneficial for more low end torque and top end power. I have a UEL and OFT Stage 2 flash with a Perrin 2.5" CBE on my car and it really makes it more derivable in the lower rpm range. Before it was kind of gutless with the stock header in the lower rpms but now its waken up and feels like a totally different engine. Also, love the sound of the UEL

Appreciate you have not bought the car yet, but you are asking about the fastest way to throw your new factory warranty in the trash on day one. You can't go for headers without some sort of a tune.
What are your priorities for wanting a header in the first place? Depending on that answer we may provide a left of field solution you may have not considered As for a direct response to your query. Ace EL headers along with a custom tune. I prefer a banshee scream to the boxer rumble.

Definitely need to have a tune if you're going to run aftermarket headers, and definitely will void your warranty. Openflash off the self tunes are probably the easiest tuning solution IMO, but dyno tuning with ekutek is better. I personally am running a Rev Works UEL/OpenFlash tablet combo with a tune via @Wayno and I really like it. As far as UEL vs EL: UEL: More low end torque, and the tyical boxer rumble EL: More top end power, no boxer rumble Like others have said, some people love the rumbly sound of UEL headers, and some people hate it. You will have to decide for yourself. I can't speak too much about exhaust systems (catback or axleback) as I just have a muffler delete, and with my header its quite loud, but I love it. Hope this helps! -J.B. |

I prefer the stock header.
All aftermarket headers are way too aggressive and loud for my taste. Same reason why I never touched the header in the Subaru. I like quiet setups.

OP's question was for preference on Headers/Exhaust, the stock header is still a header
