Wheel/Tire Theft Notice

I woke this morning to my neighbors surveying the damage. Not one, but two of my neighbors who park in their driveways had their wheels and tires stolen from their cars last night.

The first neighbor had some chrome wheels stolen from his Expedition, and the other had the stock alloys stolen from his G37 coupe. Neither had wheel locks.

Just tonight I coincidentally watched a bit on abc news saying that wheel and tire theft is the fastest growing type of theft in the country.

***I know that you can never stop someone who wants to steal at any cost, but consider getting some wheel locks and an alarm to help prevent theft or at least dissuade/slow down the casual thieves. Getting some extra lighting around your driveway (if you park outside) never hurt either.***

I am sure that the FRS/BRZ wheels are going to be targets since they are okay looking alloys.

PS: I was a good neighbor, and took the G37 guy to work down the street :happy0180:

I just keep a few dogs in the house and have security camera's that glow an ominous red at night.

I have a garage...

...and considering that a factory wheel, tire, lug nuts, TPMS, etc run about $700 per corner IF they did get stolen I could get some very nice replacements!

^^^In Rancho Cucamonga in a quiet, decent area above Foothill.

I'm glad I have a garage because of stuff like this...it can happen
anywhere.

When I was a member at San Diego County Credit Union, they had a 370Z in the front advertising their vehicle interest rates. I went by the branch the next following week and the Z was sitting on cinder blocks.

Maybe it's time to setup some surveillance video and use your car as bait.

Kudos for taking him to work. That's the kind of neighbor to be!

Got wheel locks for mine because I agree that the 86 wheels look decent enough that some will want to steal 'em. Especially in this economy.

Did you get the Scion wheel locks?

I never get the oem wheel locks because the specialized thieves carry around multiple oem wheel lock keys and can often get your wheels off without an impact wrench or a removal tool...yes, I am paranoid.

I go with McGard or Gorilla locks so that there is a less of a chance that the thief will know what type of locks I have installed.

Some of the more skilled Honda thieves actually carried around briefcases filled with all of the oem wheel lock keys from various years and would clean house at Honda gatherings, etc.

However I doubt that we will have the same type of thievery that goes on in the Honda world...
