Honestly it depends on what your looking for. I've been a Honda person since my 1st 2005 Si Hatch. After 136k miles of driving like I'm 20 I bought a 2011 Si sedan. The biggest hurtle on deciding on buying a FRS/BRZ was the fact that is wasn't a Honda. Some will defend Subaru till the cows come home about how reliable they are but others do other wise. Whenever I buy a car I search a forum to see what the common problems are and see if they changed during model years or the community has a work around. If its something I can live with I'll buy it. I took the plunge a little over a year ago, and haven't had any issues with it other than, the majority of the TSB that have been released. That being said the only reason I traded my Si in on the BRZ is because its sublime to drive. But it doesn't "feel" like a Honda and I do miss that.

My general rule of thumb:

- if you have to ask, usually it's not a good idea.
- if you want a car to last you 6-8 years, you have to be prepared to spend money on repairs, upkeep, and know how to work on a car (or have a reliable mechanic handy).
- if you don't have a reliable mechanic or are otherwise worried about downtime, get a car with a longer/extended warranty.
- if, after all monthly expenses, you don't have money that is the same as your car payments (or $300, whichever is less), you shouldn't buy the car. This money should be disposable income you have in case you wreck, have a mechanical breakdown, or otherwise would need to spend on the car for upkeep.

@Marchy I leased mine because insurance and all maintenance was included at no extra cost. What I meant was how I still live with my parents, owe a ton on student loans, and only make about $29k a year at work.

Oh, these guys will have a field day.

Not gonna lie guys, I've been reading threads like this: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15577

and now I'm seriously considering canceling my order. I'm just extremely nervous about the car now. I don't want to make a big investment like this and get caught holding the bag.

I actually already bought Toyota T badges to replace the Scion badges, haha. They're in the mail now. I've been daydreaming about 18x8.75 +35 gold XXR 527's and ST coilovers for weeks now.

But damn. First and foremost, I need a dependable car. After the Cobalt, I don't need another headache. I love the idea of having a head-turner, but the Civic Si is almost as fun to drive, and apparently infinitely more reliable.

Keep in mind, if you don't mod your car and it blows up, you DO have a warranty. When my engine blew, the dealer put me in a loaner and they were set to replace it at no cost/hassle to me (other than driving a Forester for a few weeks *shiver*).

Yeah, but because I'm buying this car new, I want it to last me about 8 years. So I plan on driving it long after the warranty expires.

My simple rule of thumb is only buy things that you could buy two of.... I you can't buy two it's likely a risk to buy one....

This car is reliable. Some early ones had some minor issues.
Most horror stories are because of the owners, not the car.
Leave the engine alone and maintain it properly and it should be
As reliable as any modern day car.
As far as the monetary aspect.. How much do you value the driving experience ?
If you do and want to experience one of the most fun cars to drive at any price.. Then by all means, keep your order and look forward to owning it.
You can always buy an extended warranty for peace of mind... But I wouldn't waste the money..

Who told you that?

I think it's funny that you're spending money on parts for a car you don't have, that you really can't even afford in the first place. I think you need to step back and take a look at the big picture.
