'Quiet' Header
I've done a lot of research and I know a header is a great way to increase power and remove the TQ dip (or at least lessen it)
I have an ARK DT-S exhaust and ARK test pipe and I love the sound but I don't want to go too much louder. From what I've see all headers are making our cars significantly louder and that's just not my style. Any recommendations for a 'quiet' header or a way to take the noise level down a notch after a header install?

Ensuring the header is catted is the one thing that will keep it quieter than most

Stock...
Even the FT86 Speedfactory header is fucking loud when paired with the wrong exhaust, basically unless you go with one of the quietest exhausts on the market (Q300, or Perrin) your car will get signifigantly louder with ANY aftermarket header. Especially on cold starts. |

When I added my FT86SpeedFactory catted header, I just wanted the sound to change and not get much louder. Before that, I had their V1 unresonated catback, Invidia catted front pipe, and a Perrin overpipe. When I added the header, I went with the resonated midpipe. Volume might have increased by like a few decibels, but it mainly changed the sound to more of the UEL boxer rumble, which is exactly what I wanted. So if you are resonated, the header should do the same thing for you as it did for me.
Hope this helps. You can go to my build page in my sig to hear the exhaust set up. I have some from my previous setup without the header, and then new videos with my new set up. That should help you compare. |

You'll probably have to change your test pipe to a resonated or catted one.

Thanks the responses, My test pipe does have the 'Helmholtz' style resonator on the test pipe and catback.
The DT-S is one of the more quiet exhausts I think, I guess its worth a shot and if its too loud ill add in more resonators.

Wow I just watched the FT86speedfactory video with a full exhaust, that thing is bloody loud!
But I'm impressed that it removed the dip with no tune, if only the factory could of thought of that.

Man up and go with a Catless UEL Header :3.
Just change your cat back to something quieter, also get a front pipe that's catted and resonated. Less rasp & volume if paired with a catless header. If you're a Subaru guy and like the rumble, a catless UEL is where it's at for the defined rumble; catted UEL's barely have any rumble/ aren't as pronounced as catless UEL's. If you really want a quiet header, just cut the cats out of the stock headers- the stock headers are designed quite well, it's just the cats that are restricting some extra performance. |

You might as well just say "the ft86 speed factory UEL header has no rumble". Because other than the HKS UEL "Catted" header, there are no other options. and its the length of the runners that make the "rumble". It has nothing to do with the cat. Actually that entire post has bad information. If you remove the cat and weld what you need. The exhaust is going to be loud. |

^Yes that's what I was thinking too
I wonder if going back to an OEM f/p would negate any gains from an aftermarket header.. it would sure keep the noise down a notch.

Actually looking at the dyno chart FT86SF provided they made the gains with a completely stock car.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52835 So maybe a Catted header - OEM over pipe - OEM front pipe - and a 'quiet' aftermarket catback would be more inline with my goals.
