Without getting too far into specifics, I want to start a life with this girl, but her and I are at vastly different parts of our lives (she turned 21 ten days ago, I'll be 25 in 16 days). I have a career, she has school. We talked on and off about a trip, and the only thing she really said about it was that she couldn't take more than 1 day off school for it. I went ahead and booked the trip, and was hoping it would be an absolutely stellar surprise for her. Turns out, it's not, and after today I've gotten a little more insight as to why. Her grandfather is having a surgery to hopefully remove a tumor the day before we were supposed to leave, and knowing that now, I understand why it's such a big deal that she's home for this Christmas. It reminded me of the last Christmas I spent with my late grandfather.

But, I'm glad to know that over the course of a few posts, you can tell the details of my most intimate relationship, and pass judgement such as that.

Forever being the optimist, until we hear more from Cole, I disagree. My guess is what came off sounding like apathy was more pride. He's sharing a lot publicly here.

I'm hoping it was a youthful attempt at chivalry that went sideways.

I didn't realize that I was taking away some special family time with her by doing this vacation thing. I blame it on being such a cocksure individual.


Anyhow, the plan for the rest of the month seems mostly set, all we need to do is decide what dates to use for the vacation. Only thing that really sucks is that it's going to cost about 1100 more for us to go over New Years, but I suppose all in all, it's not bad. My credit card reward points will cover 900 or so, and she's offered to pay 500 (which I will not be accepting, but it's the thought that counts)

Dirt bike is still on the table though. Will probably start looking once I'm back home for the year. Bums me out that the province did away with green plates (or maybe blue plates, I can't remember. Been too long since I've looked into it) for new bikes, which means I can't legally ride on the road and treat it like a motorcycle. I'll probably peruse the local classifieds and see if I can find an already plated bike for a decent price and cross my fingers that it comes with street tires.

Well, that's not how it was intended - rereading it I understand how it might come across that way. Sorry I came across as a judgemental prat. You're not the only one to feel that way, though that doesn't really change anything.

It reminded me of a time (or ten) when... I've made my share of stupid mistakes, and still find myself losing time mulling over the course of events and going "oh. ohhhh!" and wishing I could go back and do things differently. Mostly, based on your description of events, I can say I would have been a bit upset in her position. That may even have made me upset as I was replying.

Family is weird, and not everyone feels the same way about it. Thanksgiving was super weird for me this year - there were only 4 of us. Usually 30+. And Christmas? I'd feel lost if I spent it without family. It can be one of the most difficult things to balance.

I hope this continues to work out and the relationship is stronger because of it. And have a blast. Experiences are worth so much more than money, and new-years is one of the best times for this kind of getaway - something about a fresh new year stretching ahead of you, and cheering the new year in, just the two of you...

In other sad news, I napped while my coworker drove between work sites today, my phone fell off the dash and onto the floor and my screen cracked. Hopefully gunna get it fixed tomorrow.
