Headlight auto on thing

Whenever the car is locked/unlocked the headlights stay on for a moment, i went to Toyota to get this switched off like the manual says.

Well, they want $108 to do this, does that seem normal? Reason being is I installed HIDs and that constant startup and shutdown is going to wear them faster than I would like. So with them off, I could have the bulbs last much longer.

I don't have auto-on headlights...are you talking about your DRL / brights?

My DRL's switch on when I turn on the car. But the main lights only turn on if the auto sensor detects it's dark enough to turn on the lights. Then when I'm exiting the car they only stay on until I open the door.

Hi Rumbaar, would you please confirm that this is indeed the behavior of your Scion FR-S? My headlights or DRLs do not turn off when I open the door, it simply beeps until I manually turn them off. This is how my Lexus behaves and I would love for my FR-S to do the same. Does anyone know if it is something that can be set via the Main Body ECU? Thanks for the suggestions any fellow members could provide me with.

He lives in Australia & has a Toyota GT-86, so no Scion. I'm pretty sure it can be turned off using techstream, though.

I am having an issue with my Auto headlights switch. When I put it in Auto headlights in the daytime, the low beams come on and not the DRLs. Also, the navigation display remains in night mode. I have to manually set the switch to O - off, in order for the DRLs to come on and the navi display to be daytime mode.

I just realized it started doing this. Before, I would always have it on Auto and the DRL's and navi display mode would adjust based on the amount of day light there is.

Do you think it has something to do with sensor that detects the amount of outside light?

It is a minor issue, but its frustrating to know that I am already having issues when I've only had the car for a month.
Anything helps! thanks

are you still under warranty? it sounds like a sensor problem. I never use the auto option on my car and it doesn't make anything difficult. if you're no longer under warranty, I would just say to start manually switching your lights since the dealership would probably charge you a lot to fix it.

It's actually in the manual - provided that his sensor is still working - the dealer can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor + or - 40%.
