You and I would get along very well. I'm not super old school but I do generally loathe modern nanny tech in all instances. The one exception is BSM simply due to the awful vision allotted to the left-rear of the driver.

I have the same problem. I hate to admit it but my wife's new Camry XLE Hybrid is ridiculously good for what it is. 8-way power heated and ventilated seats, more tech than I'll ever understand (two separate owner's manuals and the several hundred page multimedia manual is thicker than the other one), adaptive LED headlights that you have to see to believe, 46 mpg overall on regular, quicker than the standard 4-banger Camry due to the instant DC torque and the hybrid is only an $800 option that will break even compared to the ICE Camry after 18 months @ $2.50/gal gas.

I'm on the fence about another 86, much improved from my '13 FR-S in M/T form but after driving a TRD 86 wonder if the trade offs are worth it. The TRD is like an aging supermodel who gets artificially enhanced. Looks good on the outside, a little tired on the inside despite the big...rims. The one thing that could sway me is if they offer massive incentives like Toyota always does during generational changes.

The previous Avalon got $3K factory cash back plus dealer discounts last year setting a new precedent that might carry on should a new gen 86 appear.

Still looking but even after all this time consider 86 a serious contender for smiles per mile. I don't see much else new under $30K that can touch it and think the styling will remain timeless. Who knows, if there is a 2nd Gen and it follows Zupra development (overweight, underpowered, overpriced), the 1st Gen could regain it's luster.

Then again, I'm a myopic Toyota fanboi who admits to being distracted by the Civic Si Coupe.

Probably will run mine into the ground. I keep cars a while and still have my last car going 20 years and now my son drives it.
No reason to buy anything new with only putting 3500 miles a year, it will be pretty decent shape in another 20.
Unless they came with a good 100hp more(won't happen) and redo the new front end, I'm staying put in the current one.

I'm a tragic RWD manual boy, I'm only 54 but I never want to feel that old that my love of being a hoon is comprised.

Hell, I'll strip out weight, throw on loud exhausts, stiffen up the chassis and suspension and the drive it 1000km for a club meet.

I'll save the comfy cars for the missus to drive the kids and grandparents around in, (or me if I've been drinking, LOL)

The time I give up my little manual RWD is when it's due to safety, I'm to old, blind and stupid.

Even then, I'll have one in the garage for when the kids or grandkids come over.

I'll jump in the passenger seat saying to one of them, "don't fuck around, lets go do some skids".

My thoughts exactly. With the way tech is taking over cars I will happily stick to the ZN6 chassis for a track car.

I'll add more for sure. I just have one car I really regret selling. Havent been able to track it down... dont want to do it again. I figure I'll tuck this one away in a corner of the barn and just start putting the newer ones there too when they're replaced.

That way I'll just regret letting them waste away instead. Lol.

Yet another reason I love my 86. It's about the least techy car you can buy today, and I like it that way. I pray the next gen does not have automatic braking (but I fear it will).

Reminds me of my old MGB-GT that I drove for 10 years in CA, 7 years in CT, and put it in storage for 7 years in MO. When I went to take it out of storage, I tried to jack it up (jack point was in the center) and the car broke in half -

Yep, the frame had rusted away from the CT salt.

That was the same fate my Impala SS suffered. Was still in pretty good shape when I put it in storage (I was going to keep it for ever and ever) but when I pulled it out 5 years later to start driving it again it was toast.

Here's where I jog your memory by reminding you that the MGB was a unibody car. That was one of the religious arguments between MG guys and Triumph guys.

Yep, funny how that can change.

1948 Chev - stored on my parents farm - parents sold farm - gave car to my cousin ( I had for 15 years).

1970 MGB - rusted in half while in storage ( I had for 24 years).

1956 Ford step-side pickup truck - relocated from MO to WA - new company wouldn't pay for moving it - sold to a friend - had the truck for 19 years.

I get a kick out of some folks that say they are going to keep a car "forever"

Valid point. Well, whatever rusted away, when I went to jack it up from the center, the center of the car went up about a foot and the front and rear wheels were still on the ground -
