Diffuser Option on the BRZ
My MGM BRZ is due in May 13 and I have decided to add a few factory/ dealer options including a rear diffuser has anyone also order this option? Any photos and thoughts would be appreciated.

You can see plenty of pictures if you search the forum.
It's a really expensive piece of eye candy. While it probably does work, the ROI is probably low, unless you are looking at it as a cosmetic mod. You can get an aftermarket CF one for less than a new OEM one, too. |

Funny I was just looking at these online. They are stupidly expensive from Subaru, I chose not to get the factory one and am looking at aftermarket. About the only one around for now is this:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21051 Very pretty but maybe a touch umm chunkier than the Subaru one. Interesting that the dry-carbon part is CHEAPER than the plastic POS Subaru OEM one!! |

The following is just conjecture on my part.
1/ For a diffuser to work properly the entire underneath of the car has to be designed with the diffuser in mind. That is, inverse wing. 2/ I don't think the BRZ/86/FR-S has sufficient power to deal with much aero. 3/ If it is only cosmetic disregard the previous 2 points. |

There are very few road cars with spoilers/splitters/wings that actually do anything,aero-wise.
86/BRZ's fall into this category-they're just body kit pieces for appearance. Chech how solid the standard "diffuser" is. If there was any aero involved, this would be the first thing to be blown off........ Cheers Len |

TRD do a nicely understated metal option (stainless I think) that I'm sure would for the BRZ. Toyota North Shore here in NZ would be able to give you a price freighted to OZ - just google them or PM @caldine
From a cosmetic point of view I think it looks great without being too over the top as some of the carbon ones are. As mentioned by others, from an aero point of view I don't think it would do much. .

Drag coefficient has nothing to do with downforce-which is what the thread was about. Drag coefficient relates to the "slipperyness" of the car's drag in a straight line. Downforce is the amount of pressure pushing down on the car. Cheers Len |

I don't believe there is a real diffuser out for the twins yet. Well maybe that TRD 86 at the TAS but that's the only thing I've seen.

You're correct, that's not in the TRD catalogue here and haven't seen it in the Japan catalogue yet. Funny the marketing blurb here tries to paint it as adding something but I have my doubts. Does look good though! http://japanparts.com/db/parts_detai...=&SEARCH_page= .
