OP is burning up two sets of RE71R's per year, I wouldn't want to spend ~$2k+ per year on tires, maybe his pain threshold is higher than mine, I'm happy I can get away with <$600 every 2+ years on my 86 for DD.
True.

A set of tires normally last me around 3-4 years no matter how I drive.

If you gave me two sets of an identical tire I bet I could shred one set in 1/4 the time/mileage of the other.

I daily drove a 300ZX for a couple of years and you'd be amazed the amount of stuff I was able to fit in that thing because of the hatch configuration. If you can live with the extra cost of tires and the lack of back seats, which are pretty much useless on the 86 anyway, there's nothing wrong with a vette.

Front-mid is still mid engine. The corvette has been mid engine for years. Also, literally nobody wants DOHC when the current motor makes tons of NA power reliably, is lightweight and physically small, and gets good fuel economy while doing it. The only people who are calling for the replacement of the small block chevy with DOHC are ignoramuses and fanboys who couldn't afford or otherwise wouldn't go buy the replacement anyway.

The WRX won't be worth buying until they put the new motor in the STI. Right now, the only thing the STI has going for it over a C6 Z06 is interior quality, age, and usability as a daily driver (4 doors, big trunk). In terms of performance and bang for buck, it is completely outclassed.
i dont like the STI. I meant the WRX.

The WRX felt like driving a truck to me, which I didn't like but I was willing to overlook that since it seemed like a pretty good deal as far as getting something a lot more fun for roughly the cost of a Honda Accord. Then I found out that there's no LSD option and they used some half assed open diff system with active brake vectoring instead. To get a real limited slip, you have to spring for the STI, which costs significantly more, gets significantly worse fuel economy, and has the old motor. Nope, nope, nope, nope.....nope.

Without reading past post 6 of this thread, I'd say get the Vette.

Before I bought my car, I window shopped a '10 Cayman. They wanted 40, could have gotten them down to 35. My monthly payment would be a bit bigger, but I'd have a sweet car, and I could roll up to fancy places and the valet wouldn't cringe at having to drive my rice rocket to a parking spot.

Does anybody care what the valet thinks? Why not get a Cayman now, then?

I'm now liking the look of this: http://www.caranddriver.com/news/jag...g-in-2018-news

Are you saying your getting a 06 Z06 with 13K for under $30 or did I read your post wrong?? If it's got a clean title,,,, that's a good deal. As for a DD,, I put 110K miles on my 05 C6 in 6 years. It's a fine DD.

Hey gtpvette, what's your thoughts on the new C7 vs the Twins? I'm really looking at getting a z51, but would probably have to give up the BRZ to afford the vette.

C7 is the only car I've seen that looks best in white. I can't think of a single other car that doesn't look ugly in white. Sorry white twin drivers. Your cars are ugly.

This is my 6th Corvette,,, and it's the best yet. It's not my DD due to the miles I drive to work, the FRS is,, so it's only on Fridays and the weekend. I've got 1000 miles on it at this point so haven't driven it all that much,,, that being said.

It hauls ass. 460hp and a 7 speed is great!! Z51 will serve me well,,, dry sump motor, upgraded springs, shocks and sway bars, better brakes, Electronic LSD, Different ratios in the 7 speed, adjustable mufflers, Rev Matching on downshifts, coolers for the dif and trans, +1" on the rims and tires (19" & 20). I belive the Z51 package is worth every cent,, and the only option I really wanted.

You can't really compare it to the FRS,,, it's just a way different car,,, a much better car but it should be at twice the price. Dont get me wrong,, I like my FRS just fine and plan to keep it for 150K miles or so. It just doesn't have 460HP and a factory warranty.

I don't thinnk you'd be disapointed in swaping your BRZ for a C7.

Bananas and dildos might not be so far apart depending on the ripeness of the banana :P

No but seriously I did go look at a few of these locally for sale over the last couple of days just to compare to the original one I was looking at. I was fortunate enough to drive a Z06 back to back with a low mileage AP2 S2000, 993 C4S and a my old FRS that I sold to my friend. By far the Z06 is the best out of all of those vehicles. The only drawback that stands out as obvious is that the Vette has the lowest quality interior of the bunch with the FRS coming in a close 2nd. Other than this I think that the ergonomics are better all around in the FRS. Not much else to discern that isn't already common sense.

As previously stated I will likely picking up the Z06 and after valve guide replacement I will be in it almost exactly the same amount as a fully optioned 17 Limited.

Consumables will thankfully be covered by my work and they are already used to buying me a set of tires per year.

Thanks everyone for your input and if your open minded and haven't driven a C6 Z06 I recommend you check one out
