NorCal (Bay Area) OFF-TOPIC Chat Thread

For me 245/40/17 on 9" in the best set up for this chassis DD/AutoX/track unless you have serious power/body mods.

The car was not faster on 255s despite slightly more overall grip.

Also another thing to keep in mind is not every tire is the same. The actual tread width can vary a lot. Ex. a Bridgestone RE71R (current top dog) only has a 7.7in tread width compared to Dunlop ZII* at 8.7in. One would stretch a lot more than the other.

Pic for reference. Some probably wouldn't even call this a stretch (I dont really see it as one even).

That looks like the OEM tires on the OEM wheels. A stock IS350 has more stretch on it's front wheels. lol.

But yes, each tire model/company is different. Almost all Falken tires tend to run narrower than true size. I think almost all no-name brands run narrow too once they saw people buying them and trying to stretch.

To me, it's not even a mild stretch. My Yaris had a mild stretch (205/40/17 on 17x8 VS-XX)

What's up everyone?

Just wanted to drop by for a quick intro. I moved to SF a few months ago from Charlotte, NC. My car just got picked up moments ago, and we should be reunited in a week or so.

I hope to meet some new folks at the local meets, auto-x's, track days, karting events, etc etc.

Is that $1250 out the door for everything? I don't mind installing stuff myself, and I like Firestone's lifetime alignments

Which would you say is better quality, Buddy Club or Fortune Auto? I know the BC's can get super low, but I think I'm changing my mind about being dumped after thinking about my daily commute. lol

I'll probably end up getting some rear LCA simply because I would want as neutral camber as possible.

Are you just about getting super low? Or would you like a decent coilover setup?

Originally that was my plan. However, I started thinking about how craptastic Hwy 37 is, and especially having to drive through it at night (might not be able to see road kill in time). So now I'm going with my plan B, track stance and fitment. So now I'm looking at an affordable coilover that is of quality (no Megan, D2, etc). Still researching if I have to get LCA, or if I'd be better off getting toe arms instead.

Yes, 1250 out the door. If those were my absolute choices by the end of the day, FA with Swift springs

LCA. You can still adjust toe on our cars. You can't adjust camber on the OEMs.

^I have to say I was impressed with the ride on fully upgraded FA 500 (swift springs and roller bearings). Rode pretty nice in the car I drove for DD

Yeah, I think I'd rather spend a little more and get the FA's. What advantages does the Swift spring upgrades provide? They're an additional $325 I think, not sure if I can justify that for my needs. Would rather put that towards quality LCA.

So I should stick with LCA's? Bringing back the camber to neutral from the natural negative camber that results from lowering the car should also help bring the toe out back to neutral, right? If not, like you said, they can adjust the toe more from the stock toe arms?

Welcome to the Bay Area! @MisterSheep covered a lot of the local meet info. The SF/Peninsula group also does gokarting night every month, look for the gokarting thread for the details on that (or also on the Events calendar on 86DRIVE.com).

In terms of track days, you may want to mark Dec. 12-13 on your calendar. The final 2 rounds of our NorCal 86CUP time attack competition will be at Laguna Seca that weekend and all are welcome, whether track junkie, newbie, or just spectator.
