Apparently, my wording was confusing. I meant that by having one of these cars, I'm going to come to be associated with the type of people that drive them, which apparently includes people with sticks up their asses about the most moronic things.
Yes, I did get an AT, but not until after testing several MT models. I have little experience with MTs, and I could see there was no way I was going to be able to make the 40 minute drive home without doing something really stupid. The only difference I really felt between them was that the manual required an extra limb to be moving, and I was more distracted (although that can easily be chalked up to lack of experience). I just frankly don't understand why anyone would argue over it, especially when in higher end cars such as the "Supra", the manual would be completely outclassed by the AT. |

People would have loved the option of a manual for the more engaging experience in their eyes (and mine as well). It only dissolved into a flame war because of people like the OP. This kind of pointless arguing is not exclusive to FT86Club; you're going to find shit like this at any other car forum. |

I have had my AT for 6.5 years. What kind of forum experience were you looking for? Because, back in 2012, when everyone that had a twin, bought it new; Things were different back then. (Though the AT vs MT was being discussed) By my estimates: 50% of any forum is moronic arguing. Also, for someone that says that they lack experience with MTs; how do you know a MT would be outclassed? Plus, this does not take into account how much people enjoy their MT. But, I am glad that you got an AT. (You said you felt like you might do something really stupid if you got a MT!) Anyway, Check out the Official MEME thread in off topic.

You are obviously more comfortable driving a car with an AT - and that's OK. When several of us were learning to drive a vehicle, we didn't have a choice, so we "learned" to drive vehicles with a MT. For example, back when the AT was just being introduced to the masses, it was a sluggish, inefficient, power consuming transmission. However, the ATs of today don't have to be that way. Some of us older drivers have that past AT thing, stuck in our heads - Personally, I have a split personally when it comes to transmission preferences. I prefer a MT in light weight sports cars (FR-S/BRZ/86/Miata) and an AT in larger vehicles (sedans, SUVs etc.). I figure it's more important to pick a car that comes in a color you like than one with a transmission you don't like. humfrz |

So, why expose a "good car" to those few that cannot figure out how to drive a MT? humfrz |

++1 yes, correct choose transmission type based on vehicle type!! Full size trucks...Given payload towing, or a 4500+ lbs SUV , gotta go AT transmission in this day in age!

It's a know fact that manual car owners are better lovers.
The reasons are self evident. Carry on.......

2. <-- Reading comprehension would do you well. I actually drive a manual. It's one thing to have a personal preference; it's another entirely to have delusions and think lowly of others for having a different transmission choice. You do realize that some people are nearly physically unable to drive a stick shift? Do you think they aren't drivers because they can't utilize 3 pedals in perfect harmony? |
