Nothing we haven't heard before but nice to hear more good things about the platform as embargo is lifted in Europe.

From https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-re...ta/gr86-coupe/

I am confused. Did they get the info packet from BRZ or does Europe GR86 really have BRZ's rear? Hmmm what about the front knuckles....

I think its always been connected to the subframe..? The subframe is redesigned in both cars though.

The BRZ has it connected directly to the body, and so I believe its welded, not through a bushing - very direct.

I think Toyota has spent considerably more time suspension tuning than Subaru though, I think it might be considered a further evolution even though its on a slightly less direct chassis.

I had some time to check the European's reviews. Overall, there was much more technical information and some of it was quite interesting. First of all, the cylinder liners are thinner so it will be a question how much power the engine can handle going FI. First generation "issue" was the offset connecting rods and now with a back to normal rod design new "issue" will be the thinner liners? Another odd thing is the top speed which remains the same with the previous model. Is it electronically limited (really?) or is the new engine a bit weak top end? Finally, it was mentioned that it'll be offered as a single spec option meaning that we won't get anymore the 86 RC or BRZ RA Japan specs. The first generation BRZ RA spec was available in Europe and you could have a 35 kg lighter car (1202 kg). Compared to the new car weight difference is even bigger in the range of ~70 kg. Torque in new car definitely helps, but it would be better if weight was the same.

You do wonder about what issues there will be, how thick was the cyl walls on the old EJ25s?

Weak at the top end compared to the original? Eh?

Not weak at the top end compared to the original, but I would expect a higher top speed. The gearing is the same, so what is the root cause? The additional weight it doesn't matter for top speed. Maybe more downforce with the improved aero?

Downforce also doesn't matter for top speed, drag is what matters.

In theory, a ~15–20% increase in power/torque should provide ~5% more top speed assuming it's reached at the same rpm. The 4.1 FD in the 2022's is in fact ~5% taller than the 4.3 FD on the 2017–2020s, at least on the US market.

Curious what we find out later.
However, I couldn't care less whether the top speed is 140 or 150.
Except for autobahns and maybe Monza, you can't really reach those speeds anywhere.

Also you know how journalists work: whatever someone said during the presentation is what they're going to write.
Maybe the presentation didn't even mention the top speed, then someone asked, and someone replied with the wrong number...
