Headers: Has the CEL "issue" been solved?

Without getting a tune, how would one go about getting rid of the check engine light after getting headers?

Kev

And yes I did search.

well you didn't search enough lol

you use whats called an "02 spacer" or defouler, all it does is push the sensor out of the stream of the exhaust flow

Defouler causes sensor reading irregularities making it reading lean and telling the car to add more fuel to compensate till it reads the amount it needs.

I know you need an 02 spacer(or a tune) to get rid of the CEL, but I was wondering if this will cause any problems in the long run?

Why would someone put a defouler on their primary o2 sensor?

Another thing you can try is relocating the secondary O2 sensor behind the cat in your front pipe. Weld a bung, extend the wires, profit. The primary O2 sensor needs to stay in its current position though.

This information was garnered from other posts here and is not my own experience, so take it with a grain of salt. This is my plan if I decide to go with a non-catted header, in addition to tuning the cat inefficiency code out.

Tune is best. Welding an O2 bung behind the front pipe car and wire extensions works well too. Spacer is hit or miss. I prefer the options in the order I listed regardless if it was said to not tune. Headers are crap without a tune. These aren't big block V8's.
