I think that has more to do with the fact that their owner base is a bunch of simple, vapeheaded cretins who think its acceptable to rack up 50,000 miles in about 3 years of ownership while slapping on a bunch of cheap shitty mods, and then turn around and sell their car for like 4 grand less than they cost new. I think the most mind blowing part is there is no shortage of other idiots lining up to pay it instead of walking straight into a dealership to buy a new one that they will know the full history of and will get more use out of. |

@Yardjass @finch1750
my brother has an 08 STI hatch with 60k miles. he says he can sell it for 25k as-is. I don't believe him. an almost 10 year old car can still sell for ~60% of the original price?

Maybe I'm just a little sour because I was looking at the STI hatches to replace my Golf before I bought the 86. I gave up on that because the prices were so outrageous on all of them.
Then I looked at the new ones. The normal one didn't come with an LSD option and the STI has the old motor and horrible fuel economy. That was the end of that. |

There will be people that like all of them but they still changed a long way from what they started.

Back on the OP subject, hopefully they will do like the RX-7 and release a turbo for the 2nd generation model.

Hybrid would be fun, but given how budget-conscious the 1st gen design has been, I'd be surprised to see it. Perhaps I'm overestimating the current costs of implementing hybrid tech.

Prius C starts at 20k. I'm guessing by 2020 Toyota will really be pushing their hybrid tech.

Tada has been on record multiple places saying he is interested in hybrid tech for power similar to KERS. But so far it is too expensive for mass production aince its more supercar type stuff currently vs. prius tech

The Prius is FWD with a special CVT and high production numbers. Hybrid for an 86 with a conventional transmission/RWD will require a different system, likely one with the electric motor positioned in between the engine and trans. The chassis would have to grow to accommodate this, and there would be weight gain in the hundreds of lbs between the motor/battery/KERS. The more I think about it, the less likely it seems, both due to costs and the dimensional requirements/weight gain.
