Wheel / tire size combo for track use

Wheel/tire combo for track duty

I have a 15x9 wheels with 245/40 RS4s on my 2003 Miata for track duty.

Thinking 9in wheels and 245 tires for the GR86 would be great.

No idea on the right wheel size (17 vs 18in) and offset, or tire ratio.

Or!

How about people ask questions like this one in the already dedicated sections.
You know...

"Wheels | Tires | Spacers | Hub -- Sponsored by The Tire Rack
Specific topics relating to wheels and tires."

and

"Tracking / Autocross / HPDE / Drifting
What these cars were built for!"

On 1st gen, A lot of people run 17x9 with 245/40/17 for autocross and track days, not sure about more involved/frequent racing but anyways. That's what I run, perfect combo for the 1st gen. Not sure if 2nd gen will need a wider tire with the extra HP, but I'm guessing 245 will be just right..

Does this combo fit without clearance issues on the oem strut? What offset?

There really should be a dedicated 2022+ GR86/BRZ fitment thread in the Wheels and Tire section.

A rear fitment issue thread in the 2022 BRZ forum should not be the go to "fitment" thread lol.

You'll need a +45 or higher to clear the oem strut and you'll be limiting the amount of camber you can get to do it, somewhere around -2 without plates and -3 with plates.

imho if you're on the oem (or an oem replacement like koni or bilstein) strut you're probably going to be served just fine by a 17x8 w/ 225/45/17 and more camber via camber bolts and maybe a camber plate.

This is all based on the mk1, I've heard rumors it's less good on the mk2 but haven't seen any proof. As above higher offset needed in the rear anyway so getting a +45 would be my baseline.

I kinda don't want a taller tire. I'll start with coils, then wheels...
