I got around to installing some foam packing on the sides of my Mishimoto performance radiator today.

I had hoarded some wedge-shaped packaging foam from work because I knew I would use it some day... good thing I did because it was perfect for closing off the gaps to the sides of my radiator.

It should help direct airflow through the radiator instead of around it. I'll have to test it out this week...

This the gap on the passenger side...

3M double-sided tape...

Installed on passenger side...

Driver side...

Previously installed...

Upper foam packing...

Lower foam packing...

Is there any chance of those front mounted components getting damaged by rocks/road debris? If so, have you considered adding some sort of mesh grill to give them a little protection? Just curious

I don't plan on installing any sort of grille... I know there is definitely a chance for damage... but since my 86 is not a daily driver there will be less instances where my front deck will be in jeopardy of being damaged...plus, I keep my distance from other drivers. When driving my 86 I'm ultra aware of my surroundings because of how low the front is.

I still cross my fingers nothing happens though... lol

Minus the first pic... here are a few reject pics from my 2nd shoot since completing my installs. I'm saving the best pics for other media for now.

I do like this pic though...

Just looking at your louvres and I see you had to cut a heap of the bracing to install them.

Obviously the louvres return some ridgitity to the hood but surely nowhere near what was there before install.

I'd be concerned that at even reasonable speeds this will introduce vibration, flapping, and movement that MAY result in metal fatigue and weakening of the rivets.

Is there any hidden bracing we can't see in the pics you added when you installed them?

Perhaps since your car isn't a DD this isn't an sue for you.

No hidden bracing... the louver's design strengthens the opening. There has been alot of testing on these as well as TrackSpec Motorsports' other louver designs in their blog. @CounterSpace Garage is very in tune with what TrackSpec Motorsports is up to... he can probably answer any questions you might have better than I can.

My observations are that the hood feels solid...personally I am not worried about failure of any sort.

How about a temp removable mesh grille? Not only would it give protection but it would save you having to pick bugs out when you pull up to show it. I can see a ladybug that you missed, jammed in the cooling fins
BTW, be careful with photos that show your fingers to avoid fingerprint ID fraud.

The fundamental requirement of the car hood is that it can support a bikini babe.

So I thought of you today when I drove over some puke and it sprayed huge chunks all over my undercarriage and wheel wells. I was like this would drive Zeal crazy. What was worse was getting yelled at for washing my car at my condo because technically we aren't suppose to wash our cars there. But that shit stunk and was nasty.
