Well I've been getting along with the 6 speed pretty well but super steep hills (think San Fran quality steep) still terrify the hell out of me.

My uncle, who daily drives a manual Toyota Hilux stalled out like 3 times saying that the "clutch pedal is too high". Maybe I should look into doing some adjustments tomorrow...

And cheers for the thread, Synkronicity.

Did my clutch adjustment within 3-4 weeks of ownership and even then I went, "can't believe I waited that long to do it". Sorry but, car is nowhere near as fun to drive with the stock clutch height, I'd recommend it asap.

becareful you don't downshift when you want to upshift.

I was close to redline in 4th when I meant to go to 5th, but instead I went to 3rd. felt really stupid lol. I'm lucky I didn't blow apart my engine.

I think I was in low enough RPMs (6500 maybe?) that I didn't exceed redline, since redline doesn't help you when you downshift. but I assume there's a safety margin from the factory incase this happens.

5 > 2 you'll probably be screwed for sure though

happened to me a few times when I just got the car, but I caught it in the middle. I notice that if you let out the clutch quick into a lower gear, it still takes time for the RPM's to rise and you'll immediately feel the engine braking. gives you enough time to clutch in real quick if you catch it.

now I know if I mess up by the shifter feel when going into the gate so I just don't even let out the clutch if I notice something is wrong. I kept on messing up after getting my short shifter and MTEC springs due to the extra resistance, but all is good now.

i wonder if it does any damage if you go in to like say 8000 rpm? I know if you past 9000 then probably

Theres a rev limiter that stops you from over revving your engine and harming it. Though I'm not sure what the rev limiter is set at but most likely around 7500. You obviously don't want to keep pegging the limiter all the time

rev limiter only helps you when you are accelerating

Actually just made this mistake yesterday haha. Meant to go 4 > 5 but went 4 > 3 instead. Good thing I was only around 2500 RPM.

This statement is misleading and requires some clarification.

First off, the rev-limit is 7400 RPM in these vehicles.

Second, the rev-limiter isn't anything more than an electronic fuel cut-off. This means you cannot over-rev the engine using the throttle.

There is no MECHANICAL limiter. If you are traveling at 80 MPH and somehow manage to jam it into second gear (which would be difficult as you'd really have to force through the synchros) it is very possible for you to mechanically over-rev the engine. However, if you are off-throttle, you're actually more likely to simply lock-up the rears and spin out and die.

hey is that diamond ranch high? lol
all really good advice here. practice makes perfect. also i switched my transmission/diff fluid about 5,000 miles in to motul. i feel like it smooths out the shifts a bit and the shifts feel better in your hand as well.

Indeed it is! I love the geometry and shapes around the campus.

I'll have to look into transmission fluid and stuff. More of a comfort thing, but I'm curious if the actual shifting of the stick itself can get any better.

Haha ive done this before. When im cruising home after a graveyard shift and im dead tired. I usually shift at around 2.5-3.5 depending on which gear im at. So you can imagine the shock im at when im in 4th gear at around 3k waiting for a smooth transition to 5th when i accidentally get to 3rd and instantly hit 5.5k. Love manual though

To be fair, I do find it really easy to shift smoothly at higher RPMs
