I've got a deposit on one as well, hopefully they will launch in 2016 as projected.

The only thing I wish they do is cover the suspension arms.

I dunno, for whatever reason the side window shape and rear quarter glass reminded me of our cars

The problem is that it's classified as a motorcycle, meaning that it's not required to meet the crash safety (or emissions) standards of a car. Personally I'd rather burn a little more fuel and arrive with my spine intact.

Elio's $6,800 P5 Three-Wheeler Stars In Official Spot

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM7F5Rqpuio[/ame]

Quote:
It's small, it has three wheels and it's American made, a recipe that should grab the interest of potential customers.

This is the Elio P5, a creation of Elio Motors, that was presented in Los Angeles, two months ago, before taken to Detroit.

The company’s founder and CEO, Paul Elio, appears in the short film and talks about some of the car's core figures, such as fuel consumption, estimated at 84 mpg (2.8L/100km) and the targeted price of $6,800, once the vehicle will be ready for production.

Initial data released by Elio Motors in 2015 revealed that more than 47,000 reservations were made for the P5 that uses a 0.9-liter three-cylinder engine and needs 9.6sec to sprint from zero to 60mph (96km/h), with a top speed of more than 100mph (160km/h).

It should not be long until the Elio P5 arrives in the market, as it will soon hit the assembly line in Shreveport, Louisiana, where 1,500 people will be employed and an additional 1,500 jobs will be created from the supply base. The firm estimates that the three wheeler will create or sustain approximately 18,000 jobs nationwide.

I was gong to buy some stock, but after seeing the lack of any forward momentum, planning, and constant repetitive emails, I decided that I'd likely get a better return by using that money as rolling paper instead.

except they are claiming 5 star crash ratings, and working with the agency to make sure it is just as safe as a car.

And it is taking a long time to get going, but well they needed the cash to buy the stuff for the factory. I hope it comes out and can hit the 84 mpg, I might get one as a second car.

I would be sold on this for a commuter if I was a commuter and if they had video of it doing a figure 8 course and skid pad and it survived.

Sat in one in Socal. Kinda cool and like the idea. A side impact crash worries the shit outta me though as there is only a thin door and a couple inches of spaces from you and the outside world

The wide wheel stance, two wheels in front, one in back as well as lower center of gravity corrects the issue the Robin had with tipping over so I suspect that isn't much of an issue.

This isn't much different than the CanAm Spyder which is very stable at least in the minimal amount of riding I did on one.
